I had the last American built, gas powered inline-6.

I was sold under seven different nameplates.

I had an HBO documentary about me.

Horseshit. The BB 512 used two inline 6’s to make the flat 12 engine and was built under license in Russia by Ferarri and was also badged as a Dino (the 6cyl. economy model). The HBO documentary “Where Angels Soar” was produced to document the amazing feat of engineering that was the joint American/Italian engine effort.

There was a documentary about the Trailblazer? What was it called? The Flaming Pile of Shit that Sold Far Too Well?

But it wasn’t made in 2009, in Moraine, Ohio. Very close, though.

I have a TrailBlazer, and am not it’s biggest fan. I completely agree.

The HBO doc is called, “The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant,” and it is actually quite good.

Ever owned one? You might change your tune if you have. The Trailblazer really does nothing well, to be honest. I don't know a single person who owned one that has had a positive thing to say about it.

nope nope NOOOOO. The Atlas 4200 was EASILY the best part of that entire program though. some people swap them into cruisers because they are way lighter, more fuel efficient and powerful than the Toyota unit. Of course, for all the trouble, most people just put in an LS and call it good.

Disagree. With both items, actually. The driveline would have been awesome with a 4l65e instead of a 60. As it is it’s let down by the weakest link... And I quite liked the looks, and the interior. And it proved durable.

Not me personally, but my brother in law had one. They really missed it after they smacked it up. It was durable and comfortable, and would go anywhere they needed, so good car.

Well of course the 60 is a piece of shit, that’s a given. It’s a 700R4 with electronics, which was also a piece of shit. But the engine was excellent, and the A4WD worked very well when needed. It was also pretty comfortable.

I have met plenty who would say the opposite. Apparently you got a dud. The Atlas is an amazing engine that should have taken the place of the 4.3 a long time ago. It was comfortable, fast for a midsize, and decently capable. In fact really the only two things wrong with them were the interior build and material quality and the 4L60E. I would totally daily drive one again, as long as I had the rainy day fund ready to build the transmission.

The looks were alright, and the interior looked okay, but it was pretty poor quality.

The problem with the 60 is not the system. It’s the fact that they used weaker components to save money. You can change a few key components in the 60, and it’ll be almost bulletproof for 95% of humanity. Then if you stand back and look at what you did, you make a 4L65...

But in general I agree.

By the feel of things, I have to agree. I’d have to say the say the same thing about my truck, actually. But hard plasic IS durable, and clips are easily popped back in, so to me it doesn’t really matter. I’d say most of the complaints people had about interior could have been solved by using screws rather than clips, so that you didn’t get the squishy/squeaky joints, but pre-bankruptcy GM ain’t care.

The engine is one of the few bright spots of the Trailblazer, for the most part. Of the 5 people I’ve known who bought them new, only one still has theirs, and they regret it’s purchase on an almost daily basis. The front suspension is junk. The truck is just too heavy for it. The transmission is no good either. It will only find a gear when warm. And the ABS system is rather wonky, in that it will randomly engage at the most inopportune times.

As an aside, I got to tour this plant when they were still making Blazers/Jimmys/Bravadas while I was in college...would’ve been fall of 1997. I remember the professor commenting that the paint room had been updated recently, so the plant would likely run at least 10 more years. He wasn’t far off the mark.
