Anyone here have experience with the following vehicles:
Ram ProMaster
Ram ProMaster City
Ford Transit (the big ‘un)
Ford Transit Connect (the new one, not the shitty old one)
Have they been reliable? MPGs? Do you love or hate them?

My business has a big ‘un new Transit. I’ve never even been in the thing on the road, as I don’t do service calls. *sobbing*

I don’t have much knowledge of the Ram vans besides the fact that they are rebadged and not made in America if IIRC. As for the Fords, I know two people who drive both. The big’un can haul and will get 12-17 mpg depending on the foot on the pedal. The lil one has some power too, it’s pretty nice inside and gets mid to high 20’s MPG. I haven’t worked on any of these but as a Ford V8 work vehicle I’d imagine the big’un is a bitch to work on, the lil one can be specced with an ecoboost which is reliable and fairly easy to work on.

I had the Promaster City for a week (the full, top-of-the-line, carpeted version).
acceleration is good, it sounds nice and the mileage isn’t so bad (9-10 litre per 100 km).
It also handle well because of its independent rear suspension.
2.4 litre and 9-speed: not a bad combo for this vehicle, although I’m not a huge fan of this gearbox. It’s always hunting for the right gear.
there are a lot of storage space and practical little cubbys.
Seats are pretty flat (you dont sit IN it, you sit ON it.)
it’s full of little attention that drivers will like, it’s easy to load, it’s just the right height...
If reliability is there, Chrysler has a neat little van on their hands.

I rented a Fiat Ducato once for a multiple thousand km holiday. The larger ProMaster is a rebadged Ducato. Mileage was great on the highway, but it had a manual six speed and a diesel. I could tell you the mileage, but I doubt you get a frugal engine, let alone a diesel with a manual, in the US.

I want to believe it’s going to be reliable, but I’m scared. Hold me.
We have had the Ram Cargo Tradesman, they’ve been good except we had to rebuild a cylinder head at 145k on one of them.

I’m gun shy about the Transit Connect. We bought a bunch of the first generation one, and all of them had constant engine and transmission issues. They could not stay on the road.

We’re considering a diesel, though I do like the V6 they offer here.

I wonder how much weight he can carry...

The first ones were terrible because they straight up built them off a focus with no attention to mechanics and use. The new ones finally have the option for a 1.6 ecoboost and the transmission is a 6 speed instead of a 4 speed. Granted the 6 speed is the still a base transmission for most models, it’s an improvement over the 4 speed. If you’re gunshy and you’re looking at these for a new fleet, I’d suggest getting one and giving it a trial run to see how it suits you.

Let’s assume the average NFL player weighs 235 pounds. 53 men on a roster...
12,455 lbs.
