"No, I don't thank you for the fish at all" (notindetroit)

I just saw a neighbor pull up in one. It’s exactly what a proper 21st century Japanese hot hatch should look like. Discontinuing it was Mitsubishi’s biggest mistake. If they had produced an Evo version and that woman from the AOTD thing who broke up with her boyfriend because her boyfriend didn’t like Evos had an Evo sportback instead they never would’ve broken up. Fact.

Sounds like a good candidate for a drivetrain swap.

Every time I see a Sportback I dream of this swap.

My top two dream swaps are an STI wagon and a B8 S4 Avant.
I’m actually looking for a WRX wagon shell just to see about what it might cost. Could probably mitigate it by finding one with a working engine and selling the original drivetrain.

I’m sorry but I just do not like those taillights. They ruin the rear for me.

Long term plans for my Outback include a possible FA swap at some point. Ideally after they finally develop a 300+ hp version for the STI

I’ve thought about this swap since I saw them.

That would be interesting, certainly. Might be worth considering. Of course, it will be cheaper and easier to find an STI EJ than an FA for a while to come, yet.

Very true. But I’m talking a good five years down the road, and while the EJ is cheaper the FA definitely seems to be a better, more reliable, and more efficient plant.

You’ve got a point there. Makes me wonder how hard it would be to mate the WRX’s FA to the STI’s drivetrain (since it may be 5 years or more before they put the FA in the STI based on how slow subaru changes the STI in general)

Hopefully it doesn’t take them that long, but if it does I suppose I could just get the FA WRX motor and build it up to 300 (supposedly the JDM Legacy GT FA motor is already there). As far as I know there are no major compatibility hurdles between the FA and the STI train.
