Car&Driver quotes Heinz Hollerweger, head of Audi’s Quattro GmbH, as saying that the next iteration RS4 will come with V6 power and “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ”.
The C&D article cites some 420 PS as the previous model’s power figure, although the N/A V8 in the RS4 (B8) actually rocks 450 PS. The B7 RS4, on the other hand, did have those 420 PS, but that car has not been built for a while (2008).
I would not put my money on it, but they also talk about chances of the RS4 coming to U.S. shores in some form.

Loved the N/A V8, but I also love their supercharged V6. Is that the engine they’re using or is it something else?

Yup. Seeing how AMG now uses a turbocharged 4.0 V8 in quite a few applications, I can’t but wonder why Audi wouldn’t just stuff their very own 4.0T (S6, S8, Continental etc.) into the car.
Granted, it might end up much too potent, but that’s never a bad thing ...
right?
Oh well, company politics.

With the history of the supercharged V6 from the B8 S4, they might need to go for a bigger supercharger if they aim for proper RS4 power. Lots of tunes for the V6T would come in at 415-435 PS, but there’s little to be had above that with the stock hardware, it seems.
Here’s hoping they go for a smaller engine à la 2.7TT ... and maybe some more revs while they’re at it.

So long as it revs as high as the V8, I’ll be happy.

We’ll always have the cars they already built!

Not if they’re snatched up by everyone else we(rather, I) won’t.

Then you won’t be happy, I guess!
Keep in mind that the V8 went up to some healthy 8,250 rpm ... I don’t see them doing that with a turbo, and I don’t think they’ll use a supercharger again.

You and me both. You hear that, automakers? Keep making all the cars I want now so I can continue to torture myself waiting for prices to hopefully one day drop... -_-

Old news, still disappointing.
It’ll still be quicker even with “only” 420 horsepower, because it will have ridiculously torquey midrange.

Very likely, yes. Why old news, though, was this confirmed earlier?

Yeah, I remember reading about this early last year.
