We are packing our bags, the movers finish up tomorrow, Tuesday we clean the house, and Wednesday the road trip begins.

I hate packing so, I snuck outside and I am trying to kill the last of my cheap beer stash. 18 packs of High life were on sale for $9 around Christmas, I bought 7 of them. I still have 12 cans left.

Where dost thou travel, Sir blacktruck?

The far away and enchanted land of Illinois. The beauty of the corn and wheat fields will surely overcome my ability to speak.

Just the other night, I overheard a tourist in a local restaurant here in Canada order a Miller High Life. We don’t get that here. No Marlboros, either. We did just get Miller Lite this summer, though.

Tis a fine land. Bountiful in soybeans as well.

Seriously though, a decent place to live. My goal is to get there in a few years, Chicago area preferably. Any reason for the move?

Ah yes, how could I ever forget the beautiful green soybeans.

Ya, it’s a great and cheap (not so much Chicago) place to live.

I grew up there (close to Champaign-Urbana) we decided to move back so I can finish school. We will be in Carbondale which is way down south.

That’s seems weird to me, I would think we would have the same beer and cigs.

Did you get the Miller Lite in the aluminum bottles? That is my favorite beer. I am not a huge beer person so those work for me, if I don’t finish my beer I can put the lid back on and save it for later.

We had corn, grain, and soybeans where I grew up.

You’re right about the wheat though, it just seemed nicer saying wheat in my Knight’s of the Roundtable voice.

Yes, all the cheap beer.

Sometimes I wish I could get into “good” beer but, I am really not into beer enough to figure it all out.

I mean, I love me some good beer. But sometimes cheaper is just better.

Sorry, I think that’s mostly Ohio. Unless the soybeans are spreading??? (probably)

I only say Chicago because of probably getting a job in that area to start out. I have loved visiting the Chicago area and would like to live there for a few years but not forever, you’re definitely right about it not being cheap.

I hope the move goes well, sounds like life will be good. What are you planning to go to school for?

To me beer is just kind of there. If I open my fridge looking for something to drink with dinner I might have one. If I am drinking to get a buzz I stick with liquor.

Three or four beers and I just start getting sleepy.

I am going to school for Supply chain management. I am hoping to parlay that and my military experience into a transportation management or warehouse management type of job. Something that pays good but I doesn’t require me to wear a tie everyday.

It will be nice having 2 years going to school and not worrying about real life. I am sure dealing with college kids will annoy me but, I think the entertainment value of them will be worth it.

Good luck with Supply Chain, I nearly failed out last semester because of it. Business school was not my friend, I hope you do well. My new path is Communications or English with a marketing minor and carving my way into something like PR, journalism, or marketing.

Haha, I’m college aged (21) and most other college kids annoy me so I can’t say how it’ll be for you. Some entertainment, mostly annoyance probably. Have fun with group projects!

What did you find difficult about it?

I was actually majoring in journalism when I quit school to join the Army, I kind of wish I had stuck with it. But, at 20 I was a giant dumbass so school wasn’t working out.

I am really hoping that the college kids I have to deal with are like the younger guys and gals on here, most everyone on here that I know is young seems cool and not a bunch of dipshits.

Group projects will be a breeze, I just won’t do shit and if anyone complains, I will tell the professor they are bitching because I refused to buy them beer.

I don’t think we’ve ever gotten any beer in aluminum bottles, or plastic. Plastic beer bottles are a thing, right?

Most of the “American” beers sold here are actually brewed here. Bud, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime (cans), Coors Light, Busch, Rolling Rock, Rainier, Old Milwaukee, PBR, & others.

The few that are actually imported from the U.S., off the top of my head, are Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Lite, Coors Banquet (just became available here last year), Bud Lite Lime (bottles), all Samuel Adams, all Rogue, all New Belgium, all Sierra Nevada, and other microbreweries. Until recently, it was basically just MGD & Sam Adams. Oh, and an 18 pack of MGD goes for $31 here, plus taxes.

As for smokes, I have no idea what else you guys have. Camel? Hell, since I’m not a smoker and cigs here are hidden from view (by law), I don’t even know what’s popular here anymore. Player’s, DuMaurier, Export “A” & Canadian Classics are all that come to mind.

I can’t wrap my head around many business concepts beyond total basics, mainly numbers and economic theory. I’d say study your ass off for accounting the most, that really killed me along with the econ. I took one actual in department class for the supply chain and did not do well. It’s kind of what I consider ‘hard-science’ type business that wasn’t my forte as far as things go, the set ways/processes if that makes sense. I found that I’m more inclined towards the ‘softer’ stuff like marketing, PR, HR, etc. It’s more along the lines of how my brain works, art versus science or theory versus hands-on is the best way I can put it. I’m really good with hands on/interpersonal sort of things.

Don’t beat yourself up over quitting, we all have our own paths we gotta figure out. Hell, it took me 3 years of business school to figure out that it wasn’t for me.

I think you’ll be alright with your classmates, most people are just trying to slog through and get done. You’ll run into a fair number of dipshits for sure but they won’t be the majority for sure. Good plan for group projects, great actually.

I don’t remember seeing beer in plastic bottles since I lived overseas. I remember seeing them here when I was a kid but that’s been awhile.

I can’t believe how much MGD costs there. Are the American beers brewed there that expensive?

That’s funny that they hide cigarettes. We have Lucky Strikes, Camel, Marlboro (obviously), Winstons, Newport, and there seems to be variations of cheap cigarettes everywhere. On military bases they have cigarettes called “Cigarettes,” in a plain white pack with black letters. They are super cheap but I have never seen anyone smoking them. I don’t think I have ever seen Player’s in the states.
