The Cutlass is now sporting period correct G78-14 one inch white wall bias ply tires. I can sleep easy, now. They definitely ride differently than radials.
I love the squatty profile and olde timey tread pattern.

I have toyed with putting true bias ply redlines on my 68 Camaro but I love my yokohama redlines from diamondback.
they do right different though. the sidewall is super weak and will fall over on itself in a corner

Did you cross-shop retro-looking radials or did you just want the bias ply originality? I love the look of bias ply tires, but we went with Coker radial tires for our ‘52 Buick.

They seem to require a lot more correcting, they seem to grab hold of cracks in the road, and like you said, the sidewall seems to be made out of butter.
But they are beautiful...

I did, had a hard time finding bias looking 1” white walls in the G78-14 size. I think people are more invested in the original look of their mid 60’s and older cars that there is more choices for those style tires. I don’t think as many people car about their 70’s barges as much to justify as much variety in the smaller stripe white walls. I decided to just be the purist that I am and go with something that would look and feel original.

yeah if you want that factory fresh look its the only way to go. I wouldn’t mind doing a day 2 look on my car with bias plys in the front and cheater slicks in the rear.

Firestone had/has 1” white walls available with their FR380 radials from 13-17” sizes. Not sure what would be equivalent to G78-14, though. Fairly simple tread design. Did you look at those?
Bias ply tires scare me and I can’t imagine having them in anything but a trailer-queen show car.
