Bought me a Weber coal grill! BUT it uses propane to light the coal...the lazy mans coal grill. Loving it so far!

Kinja'd!!!

Here is my car to ensure I’m keeping this car related.

She’s a beauty! I fired up my Weber this evening but I had to use a chimney. Either way you end up with some mighty tasty food.

Weirdly enough in the 4 days I've had it haven't cooked a good steak yet. Did Bison burgers though! And thanks! I love her. Quality CPO find.

That is pretty schnazzy. It’s been way too hot lately for me to want to fire up the weber, but it’s finally getting cooler. And by cooler, I mean back to double digits.

So do you have to buy super-clean anthracite or something? I wouldn’t want to cook food over any of the coal fires I’ve ever seen.

That Performer is a great choice.
Be sure to register it with Weber for any warranty concerns.

F ull disclosure: I work for Weber Grills in their Customer Service phone department.

Nice 2015 Performer Deluxe in copper. I have a 2014 One-Touch Gold in the same color.

If you haven’t already, you should call the 800 number and register the grill for warranty purposes. When you do, you might get me on the phone.

My in-laws bought us a performer grill for a wedding present. Its what got me into grilling and smoke meats. Its a great grill. I’ve had mine for 3 years and there is no rust anywhere. You might spend a few extra bucks and get the cover for it too. What’s the first thing your going to cook on it?

But I do call in for customers of mine who are incapable of using a phone. Weber seriously has the best customer service I’ve ever dealt with.

I would have a nice place for a grill but I only have a basket ball sized coal grill that I found laying around in my car club’s yard. I have been think about going to a store and asking if the sell Dellorto grills as I can’t afford to buy a Weber grill. It’s quite unlikely that they would get the joke.

Might need to pick your brain a bit. Still trying to find the happy medium of how much coal to start with / how long to keep the propane on for to get a good base going. I cooked Bison burgers and kabobs already!

Oh, by “coal,” you mean charcoal. Here I thought there was a whole other level of grilling that used coal mined from the ground. Yes, charcoal grilling is awesome. Bituminous coal, perhaps still not a thing.

Speaking officially, Weber makes a complete line of cleaning products for the exterior and interior of your grill.

Unofficially, Simple Green is a great cleaning product. Use a Weber stainless steel grill brush on your grates because it’s a bit higher quality than the $1 one from Walmart. Don’t use anything on the porcelain finish more abrasive than 0000 steel wool - and even then don’t use it dry and only for the most stubborn stains.

Unless you’re aiming for temps below 300f, I recommend filling both charcoal baskets. You can always modulate the temperature with the bottom vent, and the grill design means when you are done cooking you can shut down all the vents and the charcoal will go out, saving it for next time. With my OTG I always start with a full Weber chimney starter.

Kinja'd!!! Tohru > With-a-G is back to not having anything written after his username

Kinja'd!!!0

If you tried burning coal in a Weber it would most likely melt the charcoal grate, followed by the bottom of the grill. Coal burns much hotter than charcoal and would exceed the grill’s design tolerances.
