(UPDATE BELOW) I was spacing out on the subway this morning when a little glint of metal on the floor caught me eye - lo and behold, a 64G micro SD card. I think my laptop has a reader built in, but is it wise to stick a strange card into your personal computer? I don’t want to use a work computer either, because what if it’s a bunch of weird porn? How should I go about snooping here.
My lappy only has a standard SD card reader and my DSLR is so old it takes compact flash, so I had to do a fair bit of digging for my fiancées old Droid to get to the bottom of things. And what do we have? Because my life is not a spy movie apparently, not much.
The lack of anything except these cache-looking Android files make me think that the guy who surmised that someone dropped their phone and it came flying out is likely correct. I’m an Apple slave so I don’t know what these files actually are, but this phone doesn’t know what to do with them. There’s about 61.5 of the 62.whatever gigs free. The phone also couldn’t tell me anything about the card’s brand or features, but it looks like Sandisk coloring.
Anyway, I don’t have a use for it. If someone wants it, $25 and it’s yours.

Don’t do it unless you have top notch antivirus. Also, keep it offline while you do, and perform an immediate scan on the card.

No branding on the SD Card? That makes me a bit leary...

You could run a virtual machine to isolate your system from any infection, but chances are if someone wanted to leave auto-exec viruses on an SD card, 1) it wouldn’t be microSD, and 2) they wouldn’t fork out for a 64GB card just to piss someone off. Just plug it in and go, if you so wish.

See if someone has a half dead PC or laptop lying around. We have like 3 old pretty much useless laptops around that could read a card.

I think it was Nine Inch Nails who once released a song by leaving it on a memory stick in the men’s bathroom. So.... maybe something awesome like that?

Do you have an older digital camera? I would use that to play it safe first, and then check it on a computer.

got an old phone? perhaps throw it in there. most viruses are designed for windows PCs, so less likely to affect a phone. and old phone not connected to any networks could avoid spreading it.

Download Hiren’s Boot CD, disconnect hard drive, boot mini XP from the hiren’s menu, explore! Typically a virus drop would come on a small 2gb SD card or something, so I wouldn’t hesititate to try it myself.... On Mini XP :D EDIT> Actually that looks like some cheapy bootleg 64gb, proceed with caution.

Try it on a Linux Live CD that isn’t connected to the network. That way, if something goes wrong - can’t easily infect it (Linux isn’t affected by viruses much at all) and Linux doesn’t cost anything.

Its probably where someone dropped their phone and it all came apart. I doubt theres a virus on it. I mean, someone spent a decent amount of money on a 64gb SD card.
If I was going to leave an SD out with a virus on it, I’d use a 4gb or less.

I’m an Android user, and have a 64GB card myself, but I’m no expert. It obviously was in an Android device. Androids have the option of installing apps either to the internal or external storage. The .android_secure folder contains the app files that the previous owner moved to the microSD card. For instance, the Facebook Messenger app is called com.facebook.orca . Other apps are obvious, like eBay, Evernote, EA Games Mobile, Disco Light , etc.
Long story short, the card has nothing more than a common selection of free apps on it.
It looks like a SanDisk, but it almost certainly isn’t one. Knock-off SanDisk cards are prevalent, and most of them are much more convincing than yours, which doesn’t even have a logo.
Horrible intro music warning:
