Should I get Silverstars?

So we’ve had the Fit for a week and a half now. The only complaint that my wife has had is that she can’t see far enough on the low beams. The highs are great, and the fog lights make me happy. but the distance ahead of you that is illuminated with the low beams is pretty short. SO should I get a set of Sylvania Silverstars? are the Ultras worth it(about 12 bucks more on Amazon)? Will Gohan be able to match the awesome power of Perfect Cell? Find out on the next episode of DRAGON BALL Z!!!

Have you checked any forums to see what other Fit owners recommend? Reason I ask is because for our Focus Silverstars actually don’t work that great according to other owners. I have some PIAA bulbs currently, and they’re 100x better than stock (same low beam short length problem).

I have Silverstars in my fog lights and I’m pretty sure they’re brighter and shine farther than my projector low beams. 10/10 would recommend.

Maybe, but it’ll take him 3 episodes to throw a goddamn punch.

I have Silverstars in my yukon, they’re brighter than every stock halogen bulbs I see.

I’ve been hit or miss with Silver Stars. Yes, they do seem brighter, and yes it’s a bit of a sure thing compared to some $0.99 junk off eBay, but remember that manufacturers spend lots of money making sure you can see as far ahead of you as the government allows them (supposedly), so it may be more worthwhile to look into factory or dealer-option upgrades, such as if there is/was a Xenon headlamp upgrade for your vehicle and what it all entailed. The factory halogen headlamps may offer seemingly less illumination but greater “throw”, or the color of the bulbs appears less bright because we’re used to seeing yellow-toned colors versus the bluer hues of Silver Stars, but with the OEM Xenon units, they’re as bright and offer the greatest beam and throw capabilities they can offer. For some cars, a simple ballast and bulb install is all that’s needed, while others require different headlamps to accommodate the different technology, as well as entire added fuses and wiring because of the enhanced draw on the electronics that the more-powerful system requires.

I hope this makes sense. Writing while exhausted and mildly insomniatic.

The general consensus at FF is that the factory light setting is to low.

I tried Silverstars once, but the bulb life was very short.

Silverstars are definitely brighter, but you have to make sure not to touch the bulb during installation. The oil from your hands will cause them to burn out pretty quickly, if you aren’t careful.

Very nicely written and helpful. I wish I wrote that well when I was well-rested!

I’d consider getting the XtraVision bulbs instead ...

90’s BMW low beams are terrible in general. It’s the same on my E34. I basically couldn’t see without the fog lights on. The brights are obscenely bright, though.

Theyve always had a very short life for me. like ~6months.

When I had my 00 V70R, the stock bulbs were useless. I upgraded to some Silverstars. Sadly because the way the headlight assembly was, it just seemee to make the plastic case brighter, not the road.

The fits a lot newer so ymmv but at least in my case with older vehicles, the assembly setup can only handle so much light

Also, if possible buy at a Walmart near you. If they dont work you can take them back no questions asked!

The wife has them in her ‘05 Matrix. Brighter, yes, but we’re replacing bulbs once a year. By comparison, I got my ‘04 GTO in ‘10, and the bulbs simultaneously let go a month after I got it. I replaced both with regular OEM replacements and they're still in there working today.

This has always been my complaint about SilverStars. Love the additional light but hate the 6-9 month bulb replacement. What’s crazy is if you replace them at the same time they would literally burn out within a few days of each other.

I run the cheapest version of the SilverStars in my ‘02 Outback and my wife’s ‘05 Tribute. I find bulb life to be perfectly fine, and the light output is clearly superior. Make sure to wear latex gloves and don’t get any oils on the bulbs.
