And how does Las Vegas fight the heat? By spraying water out of just about every public surface. And then they wonder why they’re running out of the stuff.

Let’s see/hear your temperature gauge high scores.

The closest we’ve come this year is 105, which to be fair is extremely hot for my part of the PNW in June. We might hit triple digits in early August but not fucking June.

I don’t believe in living in a place where you can die just from being stuck outside. That’s why I live in Florida.

I just went to a retirement party for Mrs McMike’s aunt/uncle. They are moving to Arizona.

Everything they said about their new life, house, and activites revolved around the heat. “No yard” “We have to be done golfing by 11am” “Everyone has a pool to cool off” “They don’t have DST so we can do more things while the sun is down”

Why would you do that to yourself? I don’t understand why you would move to a place where (in conversation) you make it clear how fucking hot it is.

I feel like I should be making a terrible politically-incorrect joke about Florida and why people die there.

It has be sweltering in spite of the fact I’m surrounded by the Puget Sound. Crazy people here don’t have A/C, either. I haven’t seen higher than the 90s for an outside temp yet, thankfully.

I’m in Ohio, and I think we hit 90 once this year so far. It’s been below 80 for the past week (a couple of days below 70), and it’s raining constantly. This weekend we’re finally supposed to have 5 consecutive days without rain. I’d really like some warmer temperatures.

I mean, I could do without 113, but...you know...

The highest I have seen was about 2 years ago during a heat wave across Europe.

Because this was a busy small street in the city center where everyone street parks, I had to squeeze my car (which has no power steering or A/C and had been sitting under the sun all day) out from between two cars whose bumpers were less than an inch away from mine. I glanced at the dash and it was showing 46 fucking degrees Celsius (about 116 Fahrenheint).

By the time I was done with the maneuver I was sweating so much that my shirt and pants had completely welded themselves to the seat (thanks God at least those were cloth and not leather).

I just cancelled all my appointments for that day and went home to take a bath and sit in front of a fan instead.

The other fascinating thing about AZ is the covered parking lots. They will have giant awning things over them so your car doesn’t overheat and melt just from being parked in the sun.

That’s not too bad. Its the desert. In the 8 years I spent in AZ I saw temps of up to 119. How do you deal with it? run for AC to AC. No AC you ask? Prepare for a slim, dehydrated body. First car I had there had no air con and I bought in the summer. yay...

Right!

We spent a few days in North Pheonix helping the inlaws remodel some rental apartments they had. Even in the low, low, low, low rent buildings, they had many of these awnings in place.

I don’t understand the AZ retirement move. They say “I’m tired of the cold/humidity/snow,” yet they admit they can only go outside certian times of the day. Can’t you do that were you live now?

I think the low humidity and warm temperatures make dealing with arthritis and other joint problems prevalent in old people to be more tolerable. The extra heat in the summer isn’t nearly as bad as the cold in the winter in other climates.

I was inferring things like having the wrong skin color in the wrong place.

About all it has is a tropical environment in some areas, which isn’t my cup of tea.

I’ll add a picture when I leave work. However, as a person in a desert state that gets triple digits, I don’t get Nevada. You still get really freaking hot and also really cold. I was on the strip and it snowed. At least in AZ you get 8 months of great weather and the other 4 has no snow.
