Would you ever swap a new beetles motor to the back in order to make it more traditional?

If, and only if I could also made it RWD or AWD in the process. Basically like a reverse Golf R.

Graft the new beetle body onto a smashed up R8, amirite?!

What made you go beetle (yours is turbo and manual if I'm remembering correctly) over a GTI? Just curious, one of my neighbors did the exact same. Sold his mk7 GTI and got a beetle turbo.

The R8 is a bit big I think. Maybe a 911?

Can you do a comparison with Torch’s beetle?

The Mk7, while being a hell of a handler, is a bit rough as a daily driver. The steps forward that VW took with that car definitely show in the sharpness of the handling, and enhancement of the interior, but the suspension tuning is just a bit much for Northern VA’s rough roads.
Secondly, the current generation Beetle is what got me into Volkswagens. My only other experience was with one of my brother’s ex’s who had a Mk4 Jetta. Obviously that could put a bad taste in your mouth (it literally needed a new water pump every 8-10 months). When this design first came out, I almost crashed divebombing into the dealership back home to get a closer look. It’s what got me a job as a lot porter. I’ve literally loved the design from day one. The R-Line just sweetens the pot for me.
Full disclosure: I never wanted the Reef Blue till I saw mine with the blue accented interior. I always though black. But now that I have mine. I couldn’t be happier.

I would love to. I love taking pictures and running with my wife’s Beetle as well, so the chance to hang out with a third just makes it all the better.

R8 isn’t that big, just lose the rear seat as a sacrifice for that glorious Lamborghini V10

I wouldn’t Go V10. Not very Beetle-like. I’d source the turbo I5 from the TTRS. It seems appropriate.

Well that was going to be my question. So, have you ever seen a single digit speed limit sign like this? 7. Like how would they not just pick 10. I know it's at a park / campground but just make it 5

I’ve seen a few for 5 in parking areas, 7 does seem awful random though.

That’s got to be a joke. Someone bought that and put it up. I refuse to accept the state did that lol

Definitely makes sense to get the softer car for NoVa. I’ve heard the R-line beetle isn’t too bad of a handler either. Looks sharp too, and I’m not a huge beetle guy. It looks especially good in Reef blue! Only VW blue I like more is the one on the Golf R!
Funny you mention being a porter, I’m trying to help my brother (16, working at a grocery store making decent money since he turned 15) a job at a dealership because he’s kind of burnt out at his current job, will any of the local dealers touch a 16 y/o as a porter or other position or is it too much of an insurance risk?

Where are the pics of your Beetle? And what is your favorite picture of your own car?

It’s not so much the insurance as it is the hours. They usually want someone with pretty open availability. But if one works with his schedule, it will be one of the funest jobs he can get. How long has he had his license?

It’s definitely a toss up between these three. It’s hard to pick just one haha

During the summer his availability is very open. He’s had his license about 6 months now, but began driving regularly (with an adult) as soon as he got his permit over a year ago. Can drive manual too. He's a good kid, loves cars too.

Have him start applying then. They might give him a little static because of the lack of time, but then he should just ask for a practical test.

O_o IIRC there’s another Jalop that works (or worked) at Lindsay VW in VA. Creepy that so many of us live near VA.

It’s Liquid Popcorn. He’s actually the one that helped get me hired over there. He’s still there, but I jumped over to Moore Cadillac at the end of last year.

ooo so TWO opponauts working at the same place for a time. Neat. I’ve been thinking of a new GTI, and I would probably drive to Lindsay whenever I’m ready to buy.

2 door or 4 door? If you’re looking at 2 door, I’d take a look at the Beetle R-line also. It’s a lot of fun.

I do have a Turbo (the updated R- Line model with the 210hp TSI gen 3 engine). And I am happy to report that beyond a small hiccup with the DV from the factory, all has been good. That was more of a noise thing than an actual performance thing. I do love my car.

I would like a 4 door SE with the lights and DDC, but it appears as if they are few and far between right now.

Maybe DDC would have fixed the harshness I felt. But that came after I left.
