Deadening that sound

Did some more work on the Bug yesterday. My goal was to get the rear compartment QuickRoofed. If you need a cheap, very effective Dynamat-like sound deadener, check out QuickRoof.

But to even get to that point, I had to remove some super gross 48 year old carpet and then scrape the remnants. It looked like this:

Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the bad picture. It was hotter than hell in the car and muggy to boot. That Dagobah-looking swamp crap on the back was left over after I ripped up the carpet. After hours of scraping with a busted-up putty knife and scraper, it got to this point:

Kinja'd!!!

I vacuumed up the remnants and started to lay down the QuickRoof. This is what it ended up looking like:

Kinja'd!!!

I have more work to do, more surfaces to clean and cover but I am happy with it so far.

Thanks to 1967beetle.com and Chris Vallone for the tips and ideas.

I hear home depot type material smells in the heat.

I got a 4 foot wide roll of the generic stuff on amazon that I used in the Trans Am. Works awesomely and was cheap

No, this was way back in April 2013. I don’t even remember what it was called but it was for roofing

From what Chris Vallone and some forums I read said the Quick Roof does not smell in the heat.

I see this video, looks like he knows what he’s talking about. I have seen various rating for all these materials on forums. I have a 240Z and I’ve thought about it, I’d like to just hear the engine and loose some of that ground noise, old unibodies are tin cans. I just wonder if it could ever come off, seems like that would be pretty hard to do if there was ever a reason to. I would Por-15 the inside of that thing before I covered it up.

I hear you on this. The engine makes it impossible to have any conversation in the car and you have to CRANK the stereo to hear music. I decided to make try and quiet it down. I am going to put carpet padding over the QuickRoof before I install the carpet kit. I can feel the engine in my feet but I don’t need to have it blow my ear drums.
