Just checking my local Gumtree (UK craigslist) again and its insane how many nice cars you can get for under a grand just in the area. I picked this 3.2l Signum just as an example. Low miles, decent performance (if it really has a manual, same engine as in the early 1st gen CTS btw), good condition, very nicely equipped, generally a great car (and a hatchback/wagon!).

Well, it’s a 3.2 petrol. You can’t give them away.

Plus it’s a Signum. You can’t give them away either.

The 3.2 V6 is the only engine before the turbos that actually performed. If you are just looking for a nice (as in not an econobox) cheap beater, there’s nothing better (non BMW) than this Signum.

Honestly, yeah if I was to say.....move to the UK and need to live there for a year, I’d buy something like that. Insurance might be a little high and MOT costs might hurt me if I kept it for 5 years or so but if it was short term, why not? It probably drives like an American styled V6 midsized so I’d handle it no problem. Maybe that’s why the price is low - it looks like a Euro take on an American car of the time.

Well, its based on the Vectra C which was pioneering GM’s epsilon platform, so many GM midsizers including the Saturn Aura (which is very close to the Vectra C facelift) were based on it. They aren’t bad cars, even though Opel and Vauxhall might not have the best reputation in Germany/the UK. My parents are buying Opels for over 20 years now, I drove my dad’s Astra H once or twice and it really wasn’t a bad car. Considering the Signum was Opel’s top of the line offering, I can imagine it being quite a decent car. Especially for this price.

Damnit, cannot believe I missed the first few words where it says its in fact an automatic. Shame, really.

A friend of mine has one of those. With that V6, in the same red color. But with a manual, and a fridge in the back. He paid quite a bit more, but then again he’s not from the UK. He likes the car. I personally dislike the seats and interior. I haven’t driven it myself though.

Well, if you don’t like the Signum’s interior, how about this manual V6 406 Coupe for 700 just around the corner from here? :)

Looks great.

I already own a 406 coupe. Great cars. 700 is criminally low for such a car.

Yup, I knew you had one of those, yours was a 2.0l one though, right?
