Or is it time for the tin-foil hat?

Had a face to face converstaion with my father-in law the other day about a problem he was having with a touch-screen lock the other day. He was saying they go through batteries in a few days instead of the months they claim, and he keeps returning them.

I asked “Kwikset?” He said, “No, Schlage.” I said “Oh, cool”

I left the conversation wondering what it looked like.

I’ve had some face to face conversations about things and see ads directly after on various websites. I just attribute it to the NSA doing what the NSA does and from time to time I will whisper into my phone “Hey fellas” just in case they’re listening.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Siri/Google Now were picking up keywords from conversations within range of the microphone then using those keywords to serve us ads. Would not surprise me in the slightest. That being said, it is likely just an instance of the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon.

It is possible for your microphone to be used without your knowledge or consent. I don’t know how often it happens, but it does indeed happen.

I doubt the same is true for the webcam, but I keep a sticky note over mine if I’m ever doing something private. Just in case.

The ads are probably based off of your google $earche$. They are getting really, really fast at putting them up there.

I have that one. I have replaced the battery twice in almost 1.5 years. Put one in at my sisters and it had a lot of issues at the start. Had to replace it twice. We recently replaced my keypad. Before that it was great.
