Fully loaded 2002 Saab 9-3 with only 138,000kms (85,000 miles)?
For $3,488?
Too good to be true? Look at it and tell me since I have no knowledge of Saabs.
Is it reliable? Is it a good car?
This is for my Friend’s first car, his budget was 4K and said to me “I love Saabs but none are within budget. I would learn to be a car guy if I had one”. I found this, and he fell in love. He is obsessing over it and I encourage it but I don’t know anything about them. Espeically the GM owned ones. Any issues? Is it worth getting?

Too good to be true usually turns out to be too good to be true, but I’m not saab expert.

We are going to see it in person, and I will thoroughly inspect it. Good deals do simply just exist also.

I was going to say hell no for a first car... but this made me do a 180:
“I would learn to be a car guy if I had one”
This makes me say welcome brother. Just enter with your eyes wide open. Thank baby Jesus there are still people like this that are new but still want to drive something interesting.

He is surrounded by car guys but doesn’t really have much of an interest himself. I thought this Saab is perfect since he finds them beautiful (can’t deny that) and he has us. It’s also a non-turbo model so he won’t get himself killed or anything.

That’s an average price really. Those 9-3s resolved many of the NG900’s problems. Engines are pretty reliable, though you will want to check the oil cap for sludge buildup. They are B2xx engines which are loads more reliable than the Ecotecs that replaced them. The auto trannies are weak but as long as the car is factory that wont be a concern. The electrics are the early 9-3’s downfall. Trionic 5 is great, and I doubt it would have much in the way of running, but things like gauge problems, radios, cruise etc are known to be finicky.

I won’t vote on NPoCP, but I do vote for hiring a good Saab tech to check the car out for you and your friend.

Thanks for the help. He really likes it, I think its much nicer than getting a civic or camry for him, especially if it will spark an interest in cars for him.

My stepdad’s brother drives a Saab 9-3X (hes a saab enthusiast). He goes to a saab specfic mechanic in Toronto, we could get it checked there.

He should be well warned: Once a Saab owner, ALWAYS a Saab lover. He’ll find himself lusting over 96s and Sonetts, and will earn a respect for the tweed jacket.

I’ve noticed this EVERY time. I haven’t seen a Saab owner dissatisfied yet. That is why I highly recommend it. I feel like it’s something you can love even though problems.

That’s gold! And this hopefully means they’d let you take the car to your specific mechanic to check out first.
WE DO OFFER YOUR MECHANIC’S APPROVAL BEFORE PURCHASE
It’s either a lemon, or only a few things wrong that need to be fixed, which can be used to bargain just a little more on price.
Good luck!
