You’ve seen my version of tourism in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ., !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This time, I was in the Windy City for four days, and it didn’t disappoint.
On the drive up, we passed this very pretty Chevelle SS rocking Swiss plates:
Our first order of business in Chicago was a Jimmy Buffett concert, which was a ton of fun as always. In attendance we found a BMW X6M, which has to be the fastest dorky car ever.
There was also a Golf GTI Fahrenheit Edition:
And a mildly hotrodded International Travelall.
Bonus: This police Suburban was directing traffic. Looked to be in good shape.
The sound made up for the chintzy wheels.
A bit of Rollandbait near Wrigleyville. Sorry for the smudged lens.
ID this cool old bike?
Fantastic Mercury Cougar convertible.
e
Everything below this line was spotted within a two hour period.
_________________________________________________________________
Yet more Rollandbait. I mean the restaurant as well as the car.
I’ve seen so many 80’s 911s lately it’s getting ridiculous. People must think they’re about to appreciate.
Badass G55 AMG.
The color combo on this Bentley is sublime.
ALL THE BRAKE DUST!!!
Too bad these were such shit, because regardless of what anyone says, they are extremely beautiful. Attention-getting, to say the least.
Itsy bitsy.
Sounded spectacular echoing off the buildings. Driver got on it.
I had to stop twice while photographing this Wraith.
Once to get a picture of the passing Alpina B7...
and then because a cyclist lady yelled at me for being in the street. Totally worth it.
I like the color, but sadly it wasn’t a gated manual.
That is one fast boat.
This manual twin-turbo RX-7 had just 12k original miles and looked like it had zero. It turned out to belong to a dealership on the other end of the building who just got it in. The salesman very graciously showed us all around the car, which had apparently come from the collection of a local man whose collection was worth “hundreds of millions of dollars.” I can honestly say this was the cleanest 90’s car I’ve ever seen.
CL65. Again, pardon the huge wheels.
This grey Huracán passed us several times. Jetta my ass.
We also stumbled across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , which specializes in selling absurdly expensive cars to the ridiculously wealthy. I know that most people on Oppo don’t care for such vulgar showpieces, but here you go anyway:
The G63 was a privately owned car that just happened to be across the street.
For the record, the employees at Gold Coast were nothing but welcoming and happy to answer any questions I had. They were the complete opposite of snobbish. I only took a picture of a couple of the cars, but they had plenty. All in all, a good trip.

Thanks. A lot of these cars have an incredible amount of presence in person. The Rolls, for example.

I’m sure the joke is hilarious but seeing as I’m on a phone I can’t make out anything the restaurant says. Also holy fuck Gold Coast looks like a rap video and dem cadoos

I was there this weekend! Kinja doesn’t let me publish posts with photos and videos anymore. Here’s my Imgur link photos I took (in a hurry, wife was exhausted and wanted to get back to the hotel) at Bentley Gold Coast. I like your head-on shot of the S7 and the angled shot of the silver-and-black Veyron. The lighting in there isn't exactly conducive to great photos.
There was a first-generation International Scout that we saw on the street that I wanted to take a shot of but my wife and I were on our way to a dinner reservation (which is a damn-near requirement to get decent food anywhere on the North Side!), plus countless Tesla Model S, Porsche 911 and Panameras, and a first-generation Ford Thunderbird just outside Harry Carey’s Steakhouse.

Had anyone been willing to come to the North Side, I’d have bought everyone a drink, and maybe dinner! You’re a good remote tour guide. Did you see my response on another post?

Oh wow, Imgur really messes with the photos. On my Lumia 1020 I can zoom in and read the writing on the piece of paper on the windshield.

No, I missed the Torchbug too.
We need to organize the Upper Midwest somehow ! I’d buy a drink or two Downtown as well.

Nah, even zooming in on Imgur shows the compression. Blurs everything, sadly. I’ll have to see about uploading the full-resolution (38MP) to a non-private OneDrive, Flickr, or 500px.

Based on those pics, I’m guessing you ate at Gino’s East? There’s not much else on that block of Superior.

Sounds like fun, but Chicago tends to be a once-a-year weekend when my wife goes up to see one of her oncologists. Perhaps someday, or I could return the favor if you came down to Saint Louis!

Funny thing about St.Louie. There used to be a timed “Rally” of sorts on Old Rt.66 from Chicago to STL and it alternated, STL to Chicago every year in June. I haven’t done it in years as the organizers lost interest and help. The “fun” went away..
It may be time to revive it.

Excellent pics. Love the FD and the police Suburban. FYI the white G Wagen does have dealer plates (but from Delaware).
Was the Suburban actually a police vehicle?!

Thnaks. They’re all just taken with my phone which I keep close at hand while walking around big cities for that purpose.
I *think* so, but it didn’t explicitly say “police”, but “emergency management” and the 911 stuff in smaller letters. So I’m not all that sure.
I was wondering why the plates on the G63 were black.
