After my semester in the Czech Republic ended I took two weeks to explore Europe before heading back to the U.S. Naturally this meant museums.

About the “no rope”, do they expect people to have perfect manners to not touch? Or do they have security guards close by and whisk you away if you try to kiss it with your nose?

I’m in the “no touching unless I’m the owner” camp, but I can’t say the same for many others.

I assume people in Europe are more civilized than us heathens in the US. I once went to the Canepa museum with a friend and he touched every single car. I almost lost my shit when he was tugging on the wing of an ex-Le Mans Rothmans Porsche.

I watched a woman (in jeans with rivets) sit down on the nose of a 991 Turbo, I was horrified. At least it wasn’t anything historic.

Damn that’s NOT cool. It’s incredibly gracious of Porsche to just shrug stuff like that off. Me, on the other hand, would have a sniper up high ready to shoot and kill anyone who does that to the museum pieces.

I had to meet people for dinner, so I only had about an hour in the museum.

At the Ralph Lauren show in the MFA they had infrared sensors built into the platform. A little kid kept leaning over to point at stuff and kept triggering it off. Like a casino just because you can’t see the security doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

I think the problem with that is when people don’t physically see any deterrent, some may feel entitled to be touchy-feely with (or worse like sitting on) these museum cars.

It’s funny when some people complained about some cars in autoshows or museums being roped off, but they don’t realize that not having them roped off or guarded by security would mean those cars are somewhat inviting the abuse by some people who give no fucks about other’s properties, priceless or otherwise.
