Yep..
Warner Brothers has decided to pull the license on the die-cast General Lee cars.. What are your thoughts?
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

I’d rather they stop making them entirely than try to pass off a General Lee with no flag on the roof. Negative connotations aside, the flag and the car are inseparable.

I agree. It either comes with the flag or it should not be made.

I’m glad we’re focusing on a flag instead of the real issue - 9 people were gunned down by some unhinged racist fuck that had a gun.
That being said, I’m not shedding any tears over people getting rid of a confederate battle flag that should have been raked over the coals 150 years ago.

The best take on the Flag Kerfuffle was written by our friend Zach Bowman. As a 1st-gen Yankee, the first of my family born outside the the confines of the Mason-Dixon line since 1610, his words really, really resonated:
On being Southern.
We’re a proud bunch, us Southerners. And it’s funny because we know what it means to lose. To be beaten. To be fallible. To be wrong. You get born down here in the dirt and you’re given that. The dark, tender knowledge that there’s shame in your blood.
Not all Americans have that. Maybe more should.
So there’s that damn flag. And I could tell you what it means to me as a Southerner, what I was taught to believe it means by a long line of proud history teachers and professors, but it doesn’t matter. Not really. You’ll never see me fly that thing. Never see it in my house. Not because I want to accept its complete assimilation by the ignorant and the hateful, but because of what it means to the millions of lives corrupted, disfigured, mangled, and terminated by the slave trade in the thin and pathetic name of commerce.
It’s not about free speech or expression or honor. It’s about acknowledging our role in one of the greatest atrocities ever perpetrated by one group of humans against another. It’s about bowing your head, not raising your fist.
To quote the sage, “Such is the duality of the Southern Thing.” Pride and shame, all balled up in one piece of cloth.

I’m all for pulling the flag off of statehouses, but eliminating it is too much. This is the same as Apple pulling civil war games for featuring it.

The Revolution was “treasonous”, right? That whole Independence nonsense about dissolving political bonds etc. It’s one thing to say someone was wrong, but quite another to try to erase the parts of history you don’t like so as not to offend.

Who banned anything? A corporation made a decision to pull something. That’s not banning anything. A Governor calls to stop flying it over state buildings? That’s not a call to ban anything...it’s a call to show some respect.

Walmart, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Google Shopping, and Overstock have joined in banning the images of the flag.

Corporations can’t ‘ban’ things from existing. They can not produce them, they can not allow them on their property, they can not sell them. That doesn’t mean you’re banned from owning one.
Bird

I guess my problem here, is you said ‘they’re banning it’. Sure corporations can choose to have nothing to do with a symbol of hatred and racism. That’s their right.
Bird

From that NASCAR article...the word ban is used by the author for the title. Here is what was actually said:
“That’s what we’re working on — working on how far can we go,” he said. “If there’s more we can do to disassociate ourselves with that flag at our events than we’ve already done, then we want to do it. We are going to be as aggressive as we can to disassociate ourselves with that flag.”

Overboard. It is appropriate to remove the flag from government buildings. The war was over long ago, and the flag in such a setting is nothing but a poke at black Americans. Removing the flag from such official settings is long overdue. Especially from places that purportedly represent "all of the citizens". But to go into a tizzy that approaches history erasure is a bit much. The flag itself is still a part of US history and believing that removing it from any public view will magically solve any social/racial problem is not only a (far) left-wing fantasy, but also plays into the old George Santayana quote; “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it”. Apparently, Apple wants the flag removed from a game about the civil war. Overboard.

Yeah but we actually won the American Revolution. The confederacy did not win. The south still waving those flags around is just as bad as if Germans were still waving national socialist part flags around. They were treasonous and got put in their place

The General Lee is a piece of Pop-Culture history, and should not be discontinued. Selling the die cast car is not a statement of support for the confederate idea of secession, but rather a means of sharing an icon from a bygone era.

So it’s treasonous if you lose? Or it just matches what you agree with? Curious how you’d feel about, say, flags and other signs of Scottish, South Vietnamese, Taiwanese, or Hong Kong heritage. They all lost, so treasonous all around?
