Yeah, the M3 is a thirsty beast, but that’s to be expected. Averaged 12 l / 100km so far, and that’s probably the lowest real-word average figure, given most of this was highway and motorway - though hipermiling strictly on highways, maybe 10 l / 100km is attainable. But then you don’t need 430 HP for that, do you?

Thing is though, if you’re using the power, you’re going to be hard pushed to get 400km (250miles) out of the tank. And that’s not good enough for range, is it?

400km isn’t too bad considering the power.

400kms is about what I get in my 1.4 Golf Blue-motion in pure city driving. I think it’s reasonable.

Theoretically, BMW ownership should be evidence that the owner has his/her financials well sorted. Chief executive, big bank account, profitable investments, cost of living much smaller than income, the works.

The (very sad) reality? Keeping up with the joanses is very much a thing, and there are folks out there that will bring themselves to the brink of financial disaster to do it. It’s totally possible to make $100k/year, but be hurt by something as trivial as a spike in fuel consumption because you didn’t account for that when trading up your Accord to an M6GC, and all of your monthly obligations including this new one leave you with almost no liquidity.

12 l / 100 km? I snort and laugh at that, as that is practically frugal.

I’m somewhere around 18l/100km with the Chevy and have seen as ridiculous as 23l/100km towing with the Ford (maybe it gets sold this week)...

That’s about the best mileage I can get in the Sequoia... though it weighs 3 tons and has a 5.7L V8 engine that cranks out 381hp and 400lb. ft. torque

As i said, this is most likely the lowest any owner will ever get. Use the power, and you’re looking at much higher figures. And i’m filling her with expensive european premium gas...

This should be a sleeper color, but it’s just somehow isn’t. I like it too.

The Ford is drinking regular, but that’s about correct for a period pickup truck.

The Chevrolet has the Duramax in it, and is being serviced as we speak (just finished coolant change)

My Golf, with 3 fewer cylinders, tends to almost hit those M3 levels of consumption in city driving. During the winter especially. So I guess I’m almost at M3 ownership!

yeah well in the city my 97 HP Peugeot can eat that much, no problem. And it’s manual too, so a better drivers’ car, surely!

But to be fair in city driving it’s more like 15 l / 100km for the M3, and if you push it down the twisties, or going to the track it’ll be even more.
