Last year I ran into the owner of a 1926 Franklin whom told me this year the Franklin motorcar club would be coming to Ottawa. A lot has changed in a year in my life, but I was still able to make the mighty Franklin Motor Car event!!

Most of these Franklins were made during the “Franklin Heyday” of 1923-1928.

Franklin Motorcars are somewhat local to me bring produced in Syracuse NY. Although the company was founded in 1893...their first car rolled off the lot in 1904 (I almost said rolled off the line, but of course the production line hadn’t been invented yet). Franklin lasted until 1934 producing over 150,000 automobiles all told. In their heyday in 1921 Franklin had 18 buildings with 3200 workers. They were a major player in Syracuse which of course was much smaller then.

Franklins are unique because of their air cooled engines, at a time when most manufacturers had adopted water cooling as a cheaper alternative.

In fact after Franklin went belly up it’s engine design was sold to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of Syracuse. They modified and improved the mighty Franklin air cooled engine until 1975 when they too went belly up. The remaining assets are owned by the Government of Poland.

If you want to learn all there is to know about Franklin Motor Cars, I suggest !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It is the most definitive source of information. In the meantime here are the Franklin’s I was with today!!

That purple one and the cream and brown one....gorgeous! Surprisingly “curvy” for their respective time period! :) Plus, the angled double-front window on the cream/brown one - awesome design characteristic! :D

Glad you enjoyed!!! The owner of the angled one said it was hard to see out of. I stuck my head out of the window and it didn’t *seem* hard to see out of....but I guess he would know better than I.
