Such an oddly wonderful Volkswagen. I have always had a thing for Corrados.

If those headlights were made with modern reflector buckets instead of sealed beams, it would look like this car was produced 5 years ago. Beautiful timeless shape.

I will pour one out for all the 90’s compact sports-coupes that are no longer around.

What about this Volkswagen beetle?

If it’s a standard sealed beam size there are plenty of drop-in replacements that will accept modern bulbs.

I would like one in some dark metallic green please, with the engine and stuff from the Passat R36... Oh, and tan interior and some 17” BBS RS thingys with gold centers..

Just never saw the appeal of Porsches. The 944 and the Carrera GT are the only two I like, probably because they are the least “beetle-like” of the Porsche line.

Would buy a modern Corrado with the R drivetrain and kept the liftback style

This. Times eleventy billion.
I’ve long dreamed of a Corrodo with a Golf R powerplant.

They’re not sealed beams of course (except possibly in America which required them at one point).

It’s the XKCD Substitutions for Chrome. You can change any word you want. What I did, is that I basically changed the names of every car manufacturer I can think of to a different name. For example:

Oh...
So wait, then is the lens just textured like a sealed beam, as opposed to perfectly clear modern lenses?

No 918? Also, what about the Phaeton?

I love Corrados. Is the one in your picture the one that someone had a Mk5 Gti interior retro-fitted into? I remember reading about that one in Eurotuner years ago.
Eurotuner is something else we should never forget either. When it was actually good! Not near the end when it became nothing but bagged Jettas.

It’s just the type of headlight that they used until the 90s and 00s. A patterned glass lens, polished reflector behind that, replaceable bulb. Sealed beams were much the same but they were literally sealed and had to be changed as a unit. Sealed beams weren’t popular with car makers because they were a very limited number of types.
For a long time sealed beams were compulsory in America so cars designed elsewhere had to have them fitted, often with unfortunate results.
Like this, showing other lighting changes as well:
As compared to the original
