Budget $4000

this is just a test question as the person is asleep, I’ll post a better question with more details tomorrow.

Reliable, Good on gas. This person is very br0 but obessed with being a mans man, like ron swanson or something. I feel like a Camry or Accord would be perfect. No trucks.

More details: He is 19. I’d be strictly Honda if it wasn’t for the extremely high insurance rates. Those would kill him. It’s not worth it for someone who thought bumblebee was a mustang.

Great first cars for a car enthuiest. If you can find unmolested ones. But not worth it for people who know nothing about cars. This person doesn’t know anything or really care about cars. He isn’t one of us. The insurance isn’t worth it, and the age isn’t worth it. Something chock-full of features while being reliable and cheap are the best options, which usually just kinda always ends up being a Camry. It’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades for a first car or a person who doesn’t care about cars. It’s punchy but won’t get you killed, and its good on gas and insurance. I just wish there was similar options that weren’t toyota or honda :(

The 92-96 Camry is the best car ever made, but I’d avoid the V6 because it actually is terrible on gas and fairly hard to work on, and since it sounds like he probably won’t be doing his own work, it’ll be expensive as fuck. I used to have an ES300.

Fun fact: The Echo has almost the same amount of space inside as the Camry of the same era.

For alot of people that isn’t enough. People want cars. I wouldn’t give up my car for the bus at all. He travels quite a distance daily so a bus wouldn’t be worth it. It’s sometimes better to have a car, espeically when you don’t live in the city.

03 Camry. Doesn't necessarily need to be an 03, any year of that body style will do. That was the absolute pinnacle of Toyotas as cars you just can't kill. You'd choose basically anything else with your heart, but this is the best choice your brain can make.

I’m actually looking at the Canadian Acura EL:

Kinja'd!!!

They’re are quite a few pros with this car:

1. It’s Reliable as Hell, It’s a late 90s Civic

2. It’s good on gas

3. Parts are everywhere. Personally one of my freinds is building up his EL for our car crew, so this freind can get hand-me-down parts. Also it’s shared with Canada’s best selling car.

4. Luxury options. It’s a sporty-lux Civic. 1.6litre 4 banger, Leather, sunroof, cruise control and other goodies are included on most models.

5. It’s quite attractive

Cons:

1. Expensive on insurance

I’d just like to state that just because he knows nothing about cars doesn’t mean he should buy a bad one. Camries and Accords aren’t good for anyone. Life’s too short for that mess.

When someone doesn’t see cars as more than a tool for traveling there is no point in buying something that will cost them money for no reason. They wont see the fun in buying an e30 other than “I bought an old car that’s costing me money for no reason.”. The camry is the perfect car for non car people

Just because you’re not a car person doesn’t mean you won’t have fun driving a good car. The e30 (or e36 for that matter) is just an example of a car that can be reliable for you without making you feel like you’re driving a toaster. Reliability and fun aren’t mutually exclusive.

As I know from personal experience, Camrys can be fun. Any beater or regular car can be fun if you have the right mindset. I went from a Camry to a Civic and all my freinds prefer the Camry. It’s very difficult to find an E30, let alone an automatic one. (He doesn’t want a manual at all). And they aren’t as reliable as a Camry or Accord. It’s better to get someone like this a car they do not have to pay attention to. Considering his commute, it’s mostly highway. If he was someone who was genuinely interested in Cars and would want to put any extra money into owning one, then I’d suggest something more than a Camry. But a Camry is safe, reliable, spacious, and in the asking price you can find a fully loaded example with a sunroof, leather seats, cruise control and other nice things. If you get a v6 it’s not exactly slow or as boring as people make it out to be. It’s not e30 but it’s not a toaster. Cars are basically a tool to go from A to B for him, it doesn’t need to be “fun”.

On another note, I don’t think his Parents would like him getting a BMW for his first car anyways, and all the examples in the asking price are extremely high KMs and in poor condition. And usually base models.
