...which leaves us in a bit of a pickle.
“Uh, what the hell are you talking about? Where have you been for the last few years? Why are you asking yourself questions?”
All great observations, self! I’ll answer those questions, and probably create a whole bunch of new ones!
So, about a year and a half ago, I finally got a job. I was working in a large engine block machine shop for a very prominent Fortune 500 company that makes construction equipment. Due to some EXTREMELY strict attendance policies, I was fired last week.
On top of that, the Mrs. had someone run into her, and cause
juuuuust
enough damage to total out the car. It was a beige 99 Camry XLE V6 with only 165k miles on it, and it probably would have gone double that before we needed to replace it. Which would have been awesome, since a paid for car is a paid for car. We’re getting close to $4,000 for the car, plus a few hundred in medical reimbursements.
The trouble is that she’s being a little specific on what she wants, and trying to find the perfect car at the perfect price isn’t going very well.
I’m pretty mechanically inclined, so I know what to look for with private sales, but with the need for financing, I’m looking at going through a dealer. She wants something full-sized or larger and would prefer a crossover. Also, cheap to operate and with decent gas mileage. That had me looking at Honda CR-V’s but most of them had mileage that was way above what I was looking for, or mileage right around the dreaded 95k mi T-Belt service. The problem here in San Antonio, is that ALL cars are pretty much high mileage.
tl;dr
I need a CR-V with less than 100k miles for under $10,000

Ya unfortunately cross overs cost more than the equivalent sedan. I’m looking at houses with my wife and she’s the same way. Chicks don’t understand how money works

Not sure what to recommend. If it were newer, I’d say CX5 as an alternate, but that’s way outside what you’re looking for.

Im not sure I understand what kind of car you are looking for when you say full size or larger and then mention the CR-V...

She would like a CX5. As a Mazda owner myself I would like her to have a CX5. Our collective financial situation says NOPE!

I know, I tried explaining it to her that even though it’s a crossover, it’s smaller than the car she’s replacing. She gives no fucks and wants a crossover.

“Oh honey, we can raise the budget 15k cause I really like this house. But the old budget’s in place for the one you like cause reasons. Realtor said it would only at 150$ to the mortgage every month!”
