I asked a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the other day.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I’m not saying it was dumb to ask the question, just that it was pretty simple. I am actually fond of asking stupid questions. The reason why I like asking stupid questions is because often you get some really smart answers, answers that are a lot more complex and interesting than your original question. On top of that you get people to actually think about things and why they are the way they are.

A lot of people won’t ask stupid questions because they’re scared. Nobody wants to tell the emperor he has no clothes.

That kid will grow up to be either terrible or great at critical thinking.

Not seeing as to how that was stupid. It was an honest question, and one that should be asked.

The first thing I shut down in all of my classes is the “This is a stupid question...” opening. There’s always value in both the question and the answer. I thought your question was a good one, and it did promote some good discussion.

It’s not a stupid question, you were looking for information and you found it. I do the same thing. Had you said something like “why is that stupid flap opening like that? It makes no sense” then yeah you’ll get alot of asshole like responses.

I was just saying that it was a very simple question and the kind that people are often afraid to ask. Personally I’ve always agreed with the saying there are no stupid questions.

It was an extremely good question, and one I thought of as well. And I come from a military family with 2 F16 pilots.

The only stupid question is the one that doesn’t get asked, IMHO.

There really are no stupid questions. Unfortunately, how you phrase the simple questions tend to bring out either the best or worst in people. I saw that you got some excellent responses in that thread, but literally as soon as I saw your question, I kind of cringed, expecting that you would get the other responses, and you did.

I’m a huge fan of asking questions to clarify, learn, and challenge. Both in my personal and professional life, in many cases it’s the only way to gain more understanding. And I’ll admit, and I sometimes caveat my statements with “I know there are no stupid questions, but...”

There are some stupid questions. I once worked with a girl who mentioned her twin brother, and the boss asked if they were identical twins...

Yes, there are. Like “why is the sun always full?” But, I choose to leave those out of these scenarios. =)
