This is the X5 I’m going to look at, and the replacement for the QX4. I’m planning to ask him to also bring it to a dealer for an through check and inspection so we won’t end up with a boatload of issues. What else should I ask/negotiate with?

The 3.0L it pretty much solid as long as the cooling issues have been addressed. I’d be worried about the transmission, dampers and electronic nannies. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have an 06 with the 6 speed, it’s got standard bmw issues, rebuild the cooling system, and get ready to replace every bushing. Its not bad or terribly difficult to work on, and dont expect gas milage to be great, your only saving grace is that its something like a 25 gallon tank, so you’ll get the illusion of economy until you do the math. Other than that it’s bad ass!

For some reason this reminds me of that S62 powered RWD X5 from way back

Yeah. The last BMW I looked at was a 325iT touring with a manual and AWD. The owner didn’t know barely anything about the car’s history, and said it was a “California car” not with the “49 states cat” . I checked the Carfax and the documentation which revealed it was bought in Virginia and was later shipped to Georgia. At least 3 owners. And plus that guy wouldn’t budge his pricing (4800). Too cocky for me.

I’m probably going to work off mechanical guides to replace the bushings (yikes at least a thousand dollars) and the fuel economy isn’t that big of an issue as the QX4 I was driving before was already bad.

as long as you can do basic stuff, you’re fine, look at xoupost.com and go through posts there too.
