Lawnmower help: Snapper sp90 versus Poulan Pro PR675y22AWD.
Never had a Kohler engine, only B&S. In other words, I am looking for the best $300 mower out there, and these are the best I have found so far.

Had a Poulan Pro chainsaw, could never get it to run right. A rebuild kit for the carb was half the cost of a new saw, so I didn’t bother. I’ve heard you get a good year out of them until they’re junk again, but I don’t know. I also don’t know a thing about either lawnmower above.

Snapper SP90, we picked one up a while back and it’s a solid lawn mower.

Worked at the seasonal/OPE department at Lowe’s a few years back. With Poulan you get what you pay for. keep your receipt.

Briggs OHV are typically pretty OK - I can’t say I’ve had much experience with Kohler vertical shaft engines, but inasmuch as they’re a slightly more premium brand in theory, it might be nicer in some respects. OTOH, Kohler seems to have a flair for overcomplicating things, particularly the engine electrics, and if it ever dies it may never live again. I’m also not sold on the idea of an SP mower being AWD - while it using belts might be better than the chain or shaft drive a lot of SP mowers use in the sense of nothing breaking irreparably, it seems that violates the Keep It Simple, Stupid principle, and having no un-driven wheels, I can’t imagine that easy turns by tilting onto the non-driven wheels are possible. Probably a bitch to steer.
Summary: Briggs/Snapper one is probably noiser and might break catastrophically, while Poulan/Kohler one probably runs smoother but might have some really squirrelly things happening in future and non-obvious irritating things.

Buy a Honda pro or one step down from it. I had one for 20yrs and gave to my brother when I bought a new one. Worth the extra $$$$

If you’re heart-set on one of these: Don’t get the Poulan.
If you’re not heart-set on one of these, get the nicest $50 pushmower on your local Craigslist.
