So have this Forza 5 screenshot of a Lotus 49 making the turn at Mulsanne Corner as I sit here in my frustration.

At least I made it to work, but seeing as we moved relatively recently, the spare is in a box somewhere and somebody is going to have to come get me after work so that I can look for it.

You can get one of these for $15 at pilot. I’ve actually gotten pretty good with it.

If I can’t find my spare, my backup plan is to get a cheap blood pressure cuff. I’ve seen it done before (when I was 5 hours away from my spare... seeing a pattern here?)

Is this the non-chicane config? If it is, how fast did you go?

Wait, so, at a gas station you can buy a ridiculously large slim jim kit for $15? You should be in sales. Never mind. That thing sells itself.

The one at the gas station is not actually this big but still pretty substantial. Comes with about half the hooks and the slim jim bar plus a couple wedges.

I did a few laps on the modern chicane circuit yesterday just to see how it handled. I was low 190s before the first chicane. I don’t recall the lap time but it wasn’t great. I’ll have to do a flying lap (on controller... no wheel) at some point this week. It’s a fun car... with some aids on. Without aids it’s a handful.

I’ve always felt that not racing on the full La Sarthe circuit for the 1967 French Grand Prix was one of the greatest missed opportunities in F1 history. It would have been shorter than the Nurburgring and Spa (was 8.77 miles at the time) and by many accounts the Bugatti Circuit was a disaster.

Your situation sucks. Here’s hoping you get into your vehicle!

And a related story: I was in ninth grade in my business class (don’t ask), when a voice came over the intercom and asked for me to come down to the office. Of course, everyone thought I was in trouble, and so did I. So I made my way to the office, and saw my dad standing outside the doors.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“I need your house keys,” he said.

“Wait, why?”

“I locked my keys in the van. I need to get into the house so I can get the spare.”

“Oh, oka- wait, how did you get here?”

“I rented a car.”

“... what?”

So, Old Man CB, in his brilliance, had locked his keys in the van. But he was working at the airport at the time, so his best idea was to rent a car, drive to the school and grab my keys (since I was the responsible one and was guaranteed to have them), go home to grab his van keys, then go back to the airport and unlock his van. A brilliant idea, but not that efficient.

I think a locksmith... as much as a rip-off as they are... would have been cheaper.

Be careful with the blood pressure cuff. They sell air wedges to get into cars, and they have whats basically a blowoff valve to keep from over-inflating it and bending the frame...I don’t know if a blood pressure cuff would have a higher or lower cutoff than that. What kind of truck are you locked out of? A coat hanger will get you into a Ford.

It’s a Silverado. I went home at lunch and found the spare. HUZAH!

Just did a bit of a test on the chicane-free Le Mans and topped out at 221 mph. I wish I could say I did an awesome flying lap but the car is still a challenge (as is Le Mans). I was about 4:16 with several offs.

Ah, the benefits of driving a low-drag car.

Possibly from driving a low-drag car, too.

Arguably one of the most challenging (and dangerous) eras of F1.
