And as much as I hate to see people circle jerk around new exotics.....This truly was the highlight of the show for me, just as I was leaving.

Stunning looking car. It gives me the same feeling the R8 did when it was brand new; which I didn’t think it would, but it did.

Up later today, I drove a Challenger last night, and my opinions on it.

I’m showing my age... -_-

My young age. That, and I was mixing up Magnum P.I and Miami Vice.

Early corvettes are the best corvettes. Also, with a different grille and rear end, the solstice could look like a direct descendant of the c1.

Those AMG GTs look so much better in person. I thought it was okay when it first came out in pictures/video, much like a C class coupe, but then I saw it in person at the CIAS and I was taken aback at how graceful and purposeful it looked. Almost the same presence as an Aston

You caught on to why I took the lead pic of them as such! :D

I figured as much. Fine job!

IMHO the corvette brand should have stayed as sports coupes/roadsters, and the later performance-focused cars could have been named something else.

You bring up an interesting point. I’m trying to figure out at which point the Vette started having performance-focused models; but I think it would have been inevitable.

I’m not against sportier/performance-focused corvettes and sports cars (or Personal/Luxury coupes like the Thunderbird, Lexus SC, Infiniti G37 coupe, etc. especially sportier versions like the Thunderbird S/C and Infiniti G37 IPL), and I agree one would have been inevitable. There’s an argument for Cadillac/Buick/Pontiac/Oldsmobile having had taken over the sport/personal coupe to allow Chevrolet to focus on the halo performance car during the transitional period and performance-focused 1960s, especially as - excepting the Cadillac XLR - there haven’t been corporate siblings of the corvette, though in that vein perhaps Cadillac should have offered an xlr-like model earlier (and still) and have it be the highest-performing option offered by GM, that is, an xlr zr1 equivalent. Yes, those brands have had their own halo cars including coupes, but none ever allowed to touch the company halo car (and even GMC allegedly made the Typhoon and Syclone with corvette-bearing performance, but not officially so). GM arguably denies itself sales and prestige by not continuing a Cadillac corvette-equivalent, as it could allow baser corvette models to increase sales on the lower end, and prestige models with a few thousand dollars in upgrades and parts sold for thousands or tens of thousands more to a customer who doesn’t want the same “pedestrian” model as the lesser brand, like the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo, where it’s the same platform and basic powertrain, but tuned and crafted in such a way as to deserve the price increase and grab attention and desire.
