In addition to wrenching on my VW, I also am a pretty avid musician. (Built a couple guitars, have a ton of other instruments, etc).
I go through the CL sites out here in DC and look at the gear for sale. Now we have people here with way too much money and it usually outstrips their talent. They’ll hear their favorite players, find out what equipment they use and buy that. Well whaddya know, they still don’t sound like their favorites. Pro-tip: The tone (and talent) lies in the fingers, the equipment just enhances it.
So there is always super cool stuff for sale that is still way too pricey for me. But I like checking it out anyway. This caught my eye today. Mainly for the coolness factor and the holy shit price.
Now this is a great pedal. Nay, it is an amazing pedal, but unless you are making hella good money as a musician, it’s a ridiculous piece of equipment to own. It’s like giving the keys to a brand new (insert hypercar here) to a kid with a permit. Though no one will potentially die if you turn this pedal up too loud. (I had to tie this in somehow to cars)

I don’t know, I really suck, but I sound amazing through my pedalboard. If you can’t play better, play louder. ;)

Oh the money I’ve wasted on guitar pedals...
Current setup:
Devi Ever Hyperion>Polytune> Fairfield Barbershop>(mij desirable blah blah)Boss CE-2>Boss DD-2> Early 90s Deluxe Memory Man.
If it’s an expensive boutique pedal, I’ve probably owned it. I’ve owned a number of Strymon pedals a number of times...

I dig your set-up. I have a friend of mine who currently has over 10k in pedals. That does not include his AXE-FX2 and Bogner head and Palmer speaker emulator...oh yeah the custom PRS’s he plays. His rig costs more than most pro touring musicians; it’s insanity.
My current pedal board cost me a total of 250ish. I’d have to look at it to tell you what's on it.

I’ve been through the ringer of ambient setups and all that jazz. My board has cost upwards of $2,500 at times. It’s crazy. I’ve switched over to synthesizers recently, so I’ve taken a simpler approach to guitar playing. I’m extremely happy with my board. I’d like to add a Proco Rat and a reverb again.
For synths, I have a Roland Juno 60, Moog Little Phatty Stage 2, Korg Microkorg, and a cheap midi controller for soft-synth stuff. This may have something to do with my lack of savings...

I have been playing a lot more straightforward rock/blues these days so my setup is very basic. And inexpensive.

As a pianist, I completely agree with “the tone lies in the fingers.” The symbol of an excellent pianist is when you can tell “they” are playing just by listening.

Is it strange that I’m perfectly happy with my $180 half stack and pawn shop guitars that I’ve set up til who laid the chunk? The only thing I really want is some new pickups for my RG7321 and a tube screamer of some sort. Maaaaaaaaaaaayyyybe a cheap Rogue delay.

Nope. If you have a tone that you are happy with and enjoy, you don't need to drop a ton of money on gear.
