Today, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , marks the 150th anniversary of the day the last slaves were freed in the American South. It occurred in Galveston, Texas a full two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, two months after the official end of the Civil War, and a month after the last battle of the Civil War was fought — something which also occurred in Texas. And yes, Texas was still fighting more than a month after Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender in Virginia.

A hundred and fifty years is too short a time for us to go from subhuman to equal. I wish the rest of America would understand that we are barely out of post enslavement. Now that we are gaining traction the racists are resisting because they are afraid.
I can’t remember the name of an author that tried to write a book about the Texas Rangers murderous past. She was threatened and never finished her book.
