Trying to put my old factory stereo in the gfs Micra but it wont power up at all. The antenna needs an adapter to plug in but surely it can work for now without it right? Wrong. I tried removing the antenna on the stereo in there already and that wouldnt work without it either. Powered straight up when I plugged it back in.

Why would this happen? Some kind of grounding issue? I have no antenna in my car and everything works fine.

is there a ground loop that screws into the back of it? I doubt it would ground through the antenna. That would cause all kinds of interference

Come to think of it there is a ground loop on the loom. Actually two and one is grounded to the frame so I assumed the second was useless. Is that supposed to attach to the radio itself? I’ve never seen that before.

sometimes there is a screw on the back of it. If there is exposed metal chassis back there touch the ground to it and see if it comes alive. If so there will be a screw to attach it permanently

I just attempted that and no luck unfortunately.

Just touched the antenna to the back of the stereo and it booted right up. There is some seriously strange wiring going on in here. It definitely seems to be grounding through the antenna. Radio reception is awful on the old unit so yeah...

I’ll pull the adapter harness and have a look at it.
