When you acquired your current ride, what alternatives were you thinking of?
Me first.
Chevy Colorado V8. Alternatives would have been 1999 1/2-2007 Silverado, 1st gen S10, 1994-94 Impala.
Now you.

I sold my jeep back in 2012. The choices were an 06 350z or an 06 Pontiac GTO. Went with the z because the guy selling the GTO was being sketchy.

Current: Skoda Octavia vRS estate.
Alternatives were: BMW 320d touring, Audi A4 2.0tdi Avant, Alfa 159 1.9jtd estate, but all in all I was gunning for the Skoda and got one :)

Side note: had no idea you could get a colorado with a V8!

Was the 06 the 6.0L or the 5.7L?

I have a 2008 C30
Looked at a few Golfs, an Abarth, and I think that was about it

Got your first pick, nice. My first was actually the S10, but nobody seemed to have a 4x4 V6 in good shape :)

2004 had the 5.7 ls1 with both exhaust pipes on the same side. 2005 and 2006 had the hood scoops 6.0 ls2 and split exhausts

A first gen Cayman S. Glad I didn’t get one because they look so dated now that the 2nd gen is here.

2009, 10, 11, 12. Not many out there. By 2009 not even a V8 could fix it’s reputation :)

Before I got my FR-S I was seriously considering an Elise

Current: BMW E34 530i Touring
Contenders: Miata, Volvo 240d wagon/manual, E36 325is (we paid for it on eBay, didn’t work out), Celica All-Trac Turbo (we owned it, but it needed at least $3k in repairs from sitting), Toyota Corolla (was never gonna happen, but my parents wanted one)
![]() 06/18/2015 at 13:07 |

How do they stack up, cost-wise?
![]() 06/18/2015 at 13:07 |

Ended up buying an Acura TL type S
Runners up: Cadillac CTS-V(V1) - too old to finance
Pontiac G8 - too not-manual
Acura TSX - too hard to find a manual
Honda Civic SI - too similar to the car I was replacing (Civic LX)
![]() 06/18/2015 at 13:09 |

Is that the shark nose TL or the current one?
![]() 06/18/2015 at 13:10 |

2010 Volvo S40 T5 R-Design. Runners up were:
2011 VW CC 2.0TSI
2014 Hyundai Sonata Turbo
2015 Kia Forté Koup SX
2010 MB C300
2011 BMW 328i
2013 Dodge Charger R/T (couldn’t pull the price off)
![]() 06/18/2015 at 13:13 |

From what I remember they seem to bottom out around $30k. FR-S is $26k. It’s awesome, but I still wonder how the Elise would have been.

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6 and a 5 speed manual.
I needed something narrow with alot of cargo room because Im an artist and drive in the city alot. I was looking at either something that had great gas mileage or had some power, nothing in between
Here’s my list of runner ups (in no particular order):
Pre-1997 Manual 4 door Jeep Cherokee XJ (4.0 Inline 6)
2.3L or 2.5L 4cyl Manual Ford Ranger
AMC Eagle 4x4 wagon (any transmission, because too cool)
I love my ranger to death, but if a manual Eagle 4x4 wagon comes up for sale in good condition for a good price, I would sell my ranger for it in a heartbeat.

Bought 2013 FoST.
First runner up: 2012 WRX (sedan...deal with it)
Second runner up: 2011 Mustang GT (gorgeous forest green)

Small trucks have some ridiculous charm. I wanted an S10 (any gen, really) the first time I saw one. Even the Colorado, though it’s a little bigger, doesn’t make sense more me to like. But I doooooooooooooooo

Only car ever: 2000 VW Jetta GLS VR6 5 speed manual
Runner up: 1998 Ford Contour 2.5L manual
Couldn’t find: 1996-1998 Mustang V6 5 speed.

When my Grand Prix was knocking on he door of 200k, it was down to an ‘04 GTO or a Trailblazer SS. I couldn’t beat the price they were asking for on the GTO. When I needed a good winter car, it was down to a WJ Grand Cherokee, Subaru Impreza, or RT4WD Civic. For better or worse I went for the oddball. Funny thing is, the fiancee bought a WJ herself 2 years later.

Small trucks are awesome. My truck is only 4” wider than a Fiat 500. Great for the city. It also seats 5, does 0-60 in 8 seconds, can haul 2000 lbs in the bed and tow 5000 lbs from the frame

Current vehicle 2015 WRX
Spec’d against 2015 Golf GTi and Focus ST. Last Evo was briefly on the list. I wanted a hatch/wagon, bought a sedan. Waiting for the Levorg!

1984 2wd xtra cab longbed

I’m coming in at 2” wider than a Golf. It surprises me every time I look at it in a parking lot.

if i couldn’t have a truck i wanted something fun. a base Impreza isn’t much quicker than an f-150 (well maybe in the twisties) i couljdnt justify losing the utility of a truck without gaining an equal amount of fun

Looked at MR2s, S2000s, TTs, but wound up with an Accord.

2005 Magnum RT.
Audi A4 sedan
Dodge Charger Police Interceptor
Mercedes C Class wagons
Chevy Canyon pickup
Yep, I did think about all of those. I dont regret my choice for a second. Occasionally I wonder what I would have done with a Canyon, but its pretty small and not common.

everything. What do you cross shop a Peugeot 505 with anyhow?

They need to make another Magnum...
And while we’re at it I’ll have a new Roadmaster based on the Avenir, plz.

I really wanted the GTO but the sellers were sketchy. It had a rebuilt title which I didn't mind but the guy didn't want to give me the vin or tell me what the damage was

Current DD: ‘66 Fairlane.
Alternates: ‘63-66 Galaxie, Alfa Romeo GTV-6 & Milano, Saab 900 & 9000 Turbo, Volvo 740, 940, and 850 Turbo, Fox Mustang, AE86 Corolla, Porsche 944, P71 Crown Vic, 240SX, VW Beetle/Baja & Squareback, VW Mk1 & 2 GTI, VW Quantum, Audi 4000/5000/S6 Quattro, BMW E3/21/30/34/36, Honda Wagovan, MBZ W124. I have eclectic and ever changing tastes.

That is sketchy. Too bad he was like that. I know the previous owner of mine beat the hell out of it, but its still been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, and from what I’ve read, everyone that has one, doesn’t want to get rid of it, and if they do, they regret it.

Bought a 06 GTO (budget $20k + many restrictions thanks to mother(needed her to cosign))
Alternatives:
996 (almost bought & had IMS done)
new Camaro (V6 cause price, so no)
C5 Z06 (my dealership I work at didn’t want to lower the price enough)
C6 (but in price range too many miles)

CTS V-Sport: Chevy SS. I should have bought the Chevy. The Cadillac just has to much technology tripping over itself all the time to be truly enjoyable.
e46 M3 coupe: e39 M5 or e46 M3 convertible. Just couldn’t find an example of exactly what I wanted that hadn’t been beat to shit. The coupe was just too nice and too good of a deal to pass up.
Bronco: Really any full-size Chevy. There just weren’t any good ones for sale in the area, and I only had 2 days to buy a truck.

Scratch that. 2”
narrower
than a Golf. 4” Wider than the 500. We’re on par :)
