So I bought the tools and replaced !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and... still nothing. I tried the key initialization procedure five times to no avail. I don’t know what to do, all the symptoms (slowly decreasing key range until it didn’t work) indicated a dead key battery, and now it seems like that wasn’t it.

Does the key still start the car? If so, it does charge while its in there, so its possible the new battery is just flat, but you need the engine running to charge it. Other than that, I think, at this point, you are going to need to buy a new key from the dealer.

That’s what I’m holding out hope for. I’m gonna take a long drive tomorrow and see if it does anything.
