Over the past few years, a few different manufacturers have over-stated fuel economy numbers. In the past few years, both Hyundai and Ford got caught over-stating EPA fuel economy numbers and had to pay out as a result. Are there other manufacturers trying to pull similar tricks?

The game:

Find the average fuel economy for a vehicle on fuelly.com (or your favourite fuel tracking site), and compare it to the EPA combined fuel economy. For example:

My pick: 2014 Ford Flex

EPA combined fuel economy: 18 MPG combined ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Fuelly average: 17.46 MPG ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )

Discrepancy: 0.54 MPG

That’s not a huge discrepancy. Can you find something worse? The biggest discrepancy wins. Go!

Interesting! I’d say that’s more of a win than a fail!
