The Classic British Welcome is a long standing tradition during the Le Mans week. On the friday, at a small village north of the city (St. Saturnin) around 1000 cars take over a village hall site, making it one of the biggest car shows on during the week. I headed over early friday morning and stayed till around 1, before heading back to get into town in time for the driver parade. Look out for some (lots) of pictures from me from Le Mans either later today or tomorrow, but for now, heres a selection of what was on offer at the Classic British Welcome:
P.S. High res versions are all on my Flickr: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
This rolled in, and I had a crisis. One of many from the weekend.
Sneaky Pete? is that the snake from the original viper?
Proper McLaren orange 650s.
As a Norfolk Native, I do love seeing Lotus Cars represented everywhere.
Crisis number 2....
Wouldnt be a car show in France without an old Citroen or two.
Morgans very well represented too.
More ‘MURICAN muscle, lots of this on display.
The twin exit exhausts on this are ridiculous, and this has to be the definition of Land Yacht. So many feet of Steel in this thing.
Astons Old...
And new.
Super clean, slammed El Camino was a big crowd pleaser.
More DB5 Goodness.
Stickering up for Le Mans is a tradition some people take very seriously.
Pistonheads was well represented the entire weekend.
Ducktail Carrera :D another crisis....
Followed this in. The Fare must have been pretty steep from London.
Probably the cleanest a TVR engine bay has ever been.
The rear of the E-type always makes me stop and stare.
More GT40s.
Original, Genuine M3 CSL. Hens teeth and rocking horse shit are more common.
C5 Liveried up, and very well done I must say.
Rally Quattro being rallied :D
Proper M3.
Z1 with its crazy doors.
Renault Spider. Such a peculiar little car to come of out Renault, with a small amount of help from Matra.
This was one field of the 4 or 5 CBW had taken over.
Marcos Mantis, one of I think 3 there. All Burple too.
one for Clayton for his Resto Job.
Who couldnt love a face like that.
Ah yes, the famous Mazda3 - 787b Hybrid
More Aston goodness.
Retro Alfas sure are pretty.
Slightly crosseyed, but it sure has aged well the Aero 8.
More Porsches.
Mclaren waving.
RS200 (also found this in the campsite later. Love it!)
Believe this was a Matra, but I stand to be corrected.
A fleet of these, about 6 made the trip from rainy england, and were camping close to me. Brave guys.
Atom 500. Madness on wheels.
The chap driving this must have been at least 6 foot, and kept switching between sticking his head out through the sunroof and ducking down, much to everyones amusement.
C type jag driven over from England.
Followed by a D-type short nose.
THAT NOISE!!
The only way to travel. The E type has to be one of the prettiest shapes ever made.
I would imagine this was partaking in Mad Friday later that evening (more on that in a later post)
Elise + Aero = track weapon.
More PH attendance.
And a pair of Daimler SP250s, I believe being driven by some Marshalls.
All in all an awesome event and thoroughly enjoyable as some Friday morning entertainment.

Oh yes, but as they currently number in the 4000, that will take a little bit of sorting. Hopefully tonight, but probably tomorrow.

Because of this rear end; I call this the ugly Lotus. I’d still love to own one, but maybe I should turn it into a breadvan, if I do get one.

Amazing cars, I’ve read about the annual UK-Le Mans pilgrimage for years, it sounds incredible. Thanks for sharing!
There’s an identical gray-market 323i here locally in CA that’s eluded me for years, I’ve left notes on it probably 5 times over the last 15 years asking to be contacted if they want to sell.
An Audi engine in a GT40 rep? Sure, why not?

Well that shows my ignorance, I didnt realise it was a Replica, I guessed it was but didnt honestly know.
I love that era of BMW, the styling is just so simple and clean.
Yeah there were a huge number of brits there. The campsite i was on, it must of been about 50% British.

They had very small tents, but they also brought covers for the cars. I like their priorities. They were also staying on one of the private sites which had catering and stuff which must’ve helped. But still, to drive those at least 400 miles from England is pretty impressive.
