First someone backing into it, now I clipped the mirror on a metal fence at the side of the road. It was tight and I misjudged the width of my car slightly. Completely my fault.
Luckily the assembly is fine, just need new glass since it didnt hit too hard. Plus a tiny crack in the plastic where it hit that’s repairable.

Can you actually buy the glass on its own?

Yeah you can order it. My local parts place has it but it’s cheaper online or from a salvage yard.

The person who hit it was at least polite and is footing the bill. The mirror is an easy fix too luckily. Should only cost about a fiver.

Over the winter I knocked an orange construction barrel in a similar fashion—- except my side mirror and assembly shattered into a million pieces. Barrel was frozen into a snow bank and had no give when I hit it.

Ouch, I got really lucky that it wasn’t worse. I had slowed down a lot because it was so narrow so the hit was relatively light even though it was a solid metal fence. Would’ve been 5 times more to fix if I’d wrecked the assembly.

Yeah I wasn't even going fast, it was a narrow road made narrower by 5ft of snow. I couldn't believe it when I realized what had happened. There was nothing left, I had a chunk of plastic hanging from some wires.

I just looked over and the mirror was folded in and the glass and back were gone. Going back to pick them up was a little embarassing...

Worst part for me was texting my boyfriend a photo, apology, and promise to pay for the fix. :D It wasn’t even my car - we were a 1-car household until a few weeks ago.

Haha at least I didn’t have that awkwardness. Just some swearing as I got my tools and some superglue. My gf did laugh at me a fair bit about it though.

The 4th wheel now has base coat. Some wet sanding and clear and I’ll have matching wheels haha.

I’ve already ordered some precut glass. I scrubbed the old glass off the backing plate with a dremel and the new glass sticks on with adhesive.
