So after working inside all day, I come outside to find this. (No, not the dust — that’s always there.)
This, of course, was the hottest day of the year so far here in Charlotte (98 degrees). And naturally, this was the first day my company moved into our new office — and out of covered parking.
I assume this was caused by the heat — anyone have any suggestions on how to minimize the risk of the replacement cracking too?

One of those giant Mylar windshield covers. If they can prevent my dash from cracking, they can prevent your screen, too!

Crack the windows, maybe invest in a sunshade, possibly even throw a towel over the screen when you’re gonna be out of the car for an extended period of time. Those are my best ideas.

If that’s cue, then you’re better off that way :)

You must be under warranty though? I’d imagine that it’ll be a costly one if you aren’t.
That entire facade is made out of glass or that weird touchy feely shit though, right?

That is what I do with all my cars here in NM. (we are already @ 98 today and going to 99 to 100 at the end of the week) . I do wish they still made those cardboard sun shades like they did in the ‘80s those seem to last longer compared to the mylar ones.

Yeah, it’s still under warranty. That section of the screen still works at the moment — I don’t know if the cracks are just something superficial in an intermediate layer or what have you. I can’t imagine there will be a huge hassle getting it replaced, but.......
I’m not entirely sure what the rest of the center stack is made out of. It is definitely touchy feely shit, but it doesn’t have the same look and feel as the radio screen, which is very similar to a smartphone.

Yeah, I got that impression also. It doesn’t feel like glass, it sorta feels like cheap Android phone screen. You might want to ask fellow Opponaut BugEyedBeetle , he works (d?) at a Cadillac dealer.

2012 CTS without nav. Got up to 106 that day...parked out in direct sun all day, no issues.

I’ve got a CTS V-Sport that frequently sees 100+ degree temps. I’ve never had a problem.
