So the wife and I went drive-thru cars shopping in Duluth last Saturday. As we rolled through the VW dealership I ooggled the new Sportwagens and her reaction was “I don’’t like it, they’re too wagon-y.” :(
She did however kinda fall in love with a new GTI that we reeeeeeeeeeally can’t afford at 32,xxx hanging on the mirror that still puts it 10-12k out of our tippy top budget.
We’ve pretty much worked out that we’d really like a white or grey 2008-2011 ish GTI four door with the plaid seats cuz she likes them. I’m especially hoping we can find a clean MK5 in white, as we’d like to say under 15k, altho we can go higher for the right car. plus the MK5 is cuter aka she likes it more.

Then the question is: How can a wagon be too much wagon?

Exactly. problem is she just doesn’t want a wagon. In her mind cuteness, ranks before usefulness, or fun to drive, or comfort or quality or anything really. Her main concern is “Will I look cute in that.” lol.

Nah I mean She’s liking the idea of a GTI so that works for me... even if it is just for the plaid seats, and red brakes.

How can someone not like wagons but thing hatches are ok? They’re just short, oddly-proportioned wagons.

but they’re cuter.

Well, that is the main concern of most women. And a wagon is never cute, so good luck with that.

Well if cuteness is what you want, go all the way.

haha. I’ve pitched more than one Beetle, but really she/we need four doors, and she said, and I quote “I’m not cool enough to drive a Beetle.” lol but she is cool enough to drive a GTI... How does that work? I’m also very bummed she’s not bold enough to go for yellow.

The Beetle has rear seats, if you have passengers they can deal with that or get their own car. And yellow is the only option.

Congrats you found a gem. She has taste and she’s not a hipster!

if it makes a difference my wife used to drive queen cute: a mark II VW Cabriolet. She drives a sportwagen now and loves it.
Not hers but same colors.

Mine actually picked out a MK3 Cabrio. and I was like “Yes lets buy that.!” then she got a sense-able and grown up. lol. But I told her since the Cabrio isn’t useful for like anything other than just getting around for 5 months out of the year, we could get this too.

we used to have a red k2500 suburban (1997) with a protech supercharger on the 454. Crazy fun in a strait line.

to be fair, the plaid seats are usually one of the reasons people want a GTI

True. that and the hatchback are why I’d take a GTI over a GLI.
