I personally never thought the old COTDNOM threads were the best way to handle it anyway (requires readers to make note of a good comment and be around later to submit it when the thread asking for submissions hit), although it was always good reading. Better to run a script for any post that is replied to with the string “#COTD” over a certain time period and letting everyone know that’s the accepted method for nominating a comment.
Since you started the ball rolling, you could keep doing your COTDNOM threads every day and then pass those on to Patrick (or whoever on staff will be in charge of it).

I think moving forward I am going to shepherd an Oppo only COTD. It is kind of what I wanted to do anyways at the inception. While I respect the FP for what it is, I feel like if they have it, fine. We should just have an Oppo counterpart and be done with it. Unless the FP one founders

I see no negatives here. 505 can concentrate on Oppo and Patrick can focus on the FP. $kay might be the only one put to task as she will now have to do 2 awards. But with 505’s published earlier than Patricks, she will have time to do it.
(Is that smoke in southern Colorado, coming from her computer?:)

I think we should definitely be supportive of the FP one, but love the idea of an OPPO one as well. Hell, if the OPPO COTD is good enough, Patrick may have no choice but to share it with everyone - ha! They still rely plenty on OPPO for content.
