Whats Oppo’s opinion about the Lancia Ypsilon 1.2 16v Elefantino Rosso? I find it strangely appealing even though I am generally not a big fan of most hatchbacks. I can imagine them being quite fun to drive with the 16 Valve 1.2 and you can buy one with the change found under you car seat. Probably extremely cheap to run and maintain as well.

Styling-wise, they’re quite ugly imo. That front end looks like it sat in an oven too long.

The interior is, supposedly, rather nice as well for the age and segment.

I dunno, its pretty distinctive which makes it interesting to me.

I think you’d be better of with an Alfa 145 Quadrifoglio.

Yup, I was thinking about whether the 145 might be the better choice, larger, quicker, still very unique design and just as cheap. But then you could say why not get a 156 instead, and if that was the case, why not a 166 and so on.

I like it. Although I drive a small 1.2 European hatchback so I’m a little biased.

Depends on what you want. The Ypsilon is a citycar, the 145 a compact, the 156 a midsizer and the 166 a barge. Short trips and canyon carving: smaller is better. Long distance highway cruising: larger is better. Size will affect fuel economy as well.

Haha well, it depends on what size car you want, you can buy whatever car you fancy, I just think the 145 is a better city car than the Ypsilon.

If I was to buy an Ypsilon or 145 or even a 156, it would be out of curiosity how ownership with these somewhat left field and thus interesting to me cars would be like. No other requirements lol.

Well, if I was forced to buy a small engine’d, cheap to insure car for whatever reason, the Ypsilon might be my choice (if you ignore cars like the Honda Beat or Suzuki Cappuccino). Its nice to have a car in pretty much any segment that you’d actually want to own, even though I usually tend to lean to the other end of the market.

Elefantino Rosso = Elephant Red? Is this like “Swedish Racing Green”?

Well, its the top trim/sports model. No idea how an elephant would be a synonym to sporty or agile but that how Lancia sold them.

I wanted a larger car at first until I realised how much itd cost to run so I do prefer them. A small car makes driving easier where I live though.
It’s hard to beat a small car for shear fun on a budget though. There’s plenty of great stuff to choose from.

Why? Because Lancia.

I live in the same town as you and own a 17 foot Lincoln lol. But if you mean easier to live with it might be true.

I dont mean you cant drive a larger car here, it wouldn’t be an issue. It’s just nice being able to thread a small car through gaps you usually couldnt and such.

It was just a mascot for the HF racers back in the day. No different to the Alfa cloverleaf or Abarth scorpion.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. Still not sure why you would chose a baby elephant though.
