What otherwise excellent car do you feel is massively overpriced?

My vote goes to the One-77. I’ve yet to learn anything about this car that would make it seem worth the $1 mil+ price tag. Yeah, it’s got a massive, NA engine making impressive specific power, but it’s not THAT impressive. And personally I prefer the DBx and Vanquish for looks. I guess there’s the exclusivity of it, if that oils your goose.

I want to say Chevy SS, but I’m not sure why. It’s not too much more than a well optioned Camaro and Mustang V8.

This everything. It’s such a great car, but it’s no $400,000 car.

I’ve never been as impressed with this thing as everyone else. I don’t see engineering masterpiece as much as “throw more money at it” engineering.

Toyota Land Cruiser, $80k because why exactly? That’s Range Rover Supercharged money.

Air cooled 911s

This is a great car, not a $250000 car

I think it’s the mindset of “the G8 was so much cheaper” that people have. But this car is so much more than the G8, especially now with MRC and an available manual. Also the interior is what I consider 100x better than the G8.

I've never understood the appeal of the Land Cruiser at that price.

Very interesting question, I like it. My vote is the Camaro Z28, and I absolutely love the car, but for 70k?

Not all air-cooled cars demand a hellish premium. You can still get ‘74-77 911s, 911SCs, 3.2 Carreras, and 964s in C2 and C4 forms for under $40k. Just avoid the long nose(‘63-73.5) and any turbo that isn’t watercooled.

Now, some cars do deserve the insane premiums. Any aircooled turbo, not as extreme as they are now, but the RS and RSR versions, oh god yes.

I was thinking more of prices when new, but this works too.

I posted something just yesterday about how absurd 993 prices are.

The LC is meant to compete, at least this model, with the Range Rover. Whether it does or not I couldn’t say.

Its still a pretty good markup that’s come in over the past few years even on the less desirable models. I’d love a 911sc, but not enough to choose it over other things in that price bracket (like an E46 M3, Honda S2000, AND a supercharged MR2 for the same price)

Fortunately, I do. :)

If I had the money, means, time, and desire for a second aircooled 911.

Thank you Raptor Jesus for allowing my dad to buy one!! (^_^)

I get they had to recover some costs, but it’s still a halo car. In a lot of cases companies end up loosing money on their super exclusive cars, and Toyota should’ve been ready for that. They probably still lost cash on it seeing as how they completely rebuilt just before it was going to be released.

As for new cars. Pick any current truck...

Cars that are massively overpriced. Most Astons ever.

Why do they charge so much? Because they can.

And the world is still a better place.

I thought of another way to see this. A car’s worth isn’t how much the dealer is selling it for, more so that’s what the public is willing to pay for it.

And if Aston Martins (for me it’s the Vanquish that’s overpriced, but the One-77 too.) If they seem like only $200,000 or at most $400,000 cars and people are giving $300,000 to a million for them. They are winning all day long.

Whatever in this thread that ends up being the worst offender of being overpriced is the one that’s actually winning the most HAHA.

Had a similar experience when I was in highschool. Uncle had a 911Sc targa and a Mazda FC turbo 2 (amoung other things) that he let then 16 year old me drive around. All of the fun with none of the headache :)

I actually liked the Rex a bit more, probably the reason I’m more into Japanese imports than German to this day!

I can’t say that is really overpriced. It is a one of a kind car. If a company loses money while selling something, I’m not sure that is called being overpriced.

What is really overpriced are Apple products. Made cheap from Chinese labor, and sold to idiots. When a little charger costs you $80, that is overpriced. And when that company changes the design of said chargers every generation with no difference in function just to make more money, that is an unethical company.

Any beat to shit BMW for sale in most of denmark. Either it’s cheap because it’s a 316, and who the hell want one of those, it’s a 3 series compact(o gawd my eyes), or it’s a 325 or similar that’s so beat to dead by a dozen young guys from previous ownerships.

Compared to what you can get now for $1m, no it’s not. But this car came out around the same time the Enzo was going out of production, and hybrid supercars didn’t exist back then. It compares favorably to other multimillion dollar cars from that era (Enzo, Zonda, Koineggzeegggg) It was also the only way to get a car with a 720HP V12 in it for a short time; Not even the Murci SV made that much power, and there was no Hellcat if all you wanted was the power and nothing else.

“I don’t see engineering masterpiece as much as “throw more money at it” engineering.”

Isn’t that a bit like saying that a Rolls Royce Phantom isn’t a luxury masterpiece so much as ‘throw more money at it’ luxury? I mean, I get what you’re saying, but it’s kind of the whole point.

With the Veyron, yes, they’ve thrown ridiculous money at it, and that’s meant they could make it ridiculously complicated in a way that would be absolutely bonkers for anyone else.

As for the LC, yes, that’s Range Rover money. And it’s a direct competitor for the Rangey, but one which won’t break down all the time. Considering it’s built by whittling away a solid ingot of steel, I think the price is justified.

Aside from simply being a classic, I’ve never understood why C2 prices are so high. $60,000-$80,000 for the good ones. Even a project ‘64, both the cheapest year and condition, is still $30,000.
