Yesterday we had a look at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! class, today we’ll continue with the GTS and FIA GT1 championship cars. Towards the end of the old GT1, teams were abusing the guidelines to the point the cars were more prototype than GT. In 1999 the governing body behind the 24 hours replaced GT1 with GTS. GTS cars were bigger, more powerful, and more winged than their garden variety GT counterparts. This class ran for about a decade before it was merged into a consolidated grand touring class (GTE). Outside of Le Mans FIA ran a championship for GT1 cars that gained a surprising amount of popularity for a while. Both FIA GT1 and Le Mans GTS produced some of the coolest racecars ever known to man.

Oh, so this race car has a TopGear sticker. Are there any more race cars with TopGear stickers?

No Le Mans entries? For shame. It would have rocked.

I’d so kill to have 550 GTS, Ford GT1, DBR9, S7.R and C6.R toy cars. The small ones that fit in the palm of my hand.

i think these classes did as well as they did because they had the cars we wanted to see:

gt-40, front engined v12 ferraris, paganis, murcielagos, mc-12, that aston

its a bit sad these “larger” gt cars have made way for the 911 and 458 dominated gte classes

There’s not a bad one among them.

Saleen S7: the first supercar I loved.

MC12: arguably (by me) the prettiest supercar ever.

The Astons: 007 & 009 with the lipstick paint schemes.

C5R and C6R: big V8s overwhelming everything.

So much win.
