Because they’re easy afforded by ricers and idiots, because ricers and idiots like them and because ricers and idiots frequently drive them into the ground.

ALSO: Nobody ‘preserves’ them like specialty/sports cars because they think they’re special. They’re transportation and treated as such by most.

It’s easy to find a clean Civic. They’re called brand new Civics.

Basically its the Beetle of the 90’s.

Aftermarket parts are cheaper or the same price as stock. Anything can be replaced with an aftermarket item. They can be had for less than $1500. Although it isnt fast, the engines powerband inspires high revs, the suspension is double wishbone(of sorts)in the front so the car feel eager to handle a curve. They look good so hellaflush/stance crowds are attracted.

Also the easiest thing to work on since the 60’s.

What Cletus said sounds like the most logical explanation. But I’m gonna give you the REAL reason.

It’s the New World Order.

THEY don’t want you to have a nice clean, stock Civic.

The secretive power elite know that an unmolested modern Civic will last forever. This would kill demand for new cars and they don’t want that. So they have a global team of people pretending to be legitimate Civic owners who systematically destroy Civics under the guise of “improving” them with fartcan exhausts, nitrous/turbo kits, stancing and other things that generally ruin a car.

And this is also backed by the Japanese Chaibol Oligary who always had it in for Sochiro Honda... who was an outsider and worse, showed disrespect to them.

Look, there are two types of civics: Nice ones with 200,000 miles and crappy ones with 200,000 miles.

I don’t understand it is a commuter car to get you from place to place I know it probably fun to drive but I don’t imagine that Honda thought that every street og would put a 10 inch exhaust at the back of slow civic.

Fwiw my aunt has a ‘96 that just cracked 100k last week. Granted she also has a Denali and a vintage Triumph, and she’s out of the country on business a lot (government stuff), so it only gets used for part of the year. It’s kind of like being in a time capsule, really!

But most were used up in the early 2000s by 30-something parents who then give it to their kids when they were old enough, Tokyo Drift comes out, and bam instant ricers!

The moral is no kids, no problem! Or more cars, no problem!

I own one and I can say that its mostly due to the demographic that can afford them: teens and young adults, occasionally you see a modified EG that isnt screaming for attention but thats rare. Due to its commuter car nature more inhabit cities where peaple try to stand out in any/every way possible leading to slow, loud, useless around a corner, staced, slammed boxes of crap. Instead of spending their time/money on modifications that matter and acually increase performance in some way.

EDIT: $3400. Still. CP

Because racecar! I watched a corny movie and now I think my hand-me-down econobox is a performance car, so I welded a coffee can to the muffler and attached a big plastic dildo to my gear lever!

Because they either get modified or stolen.

Kinja'd!!!

In late 2012, I came across this Civic in a dealer’s inventory in Bellevue, Washington. 1995 Honda Civic EX, 85,000 miles, one owner, clean carfax, mint condition, totally stock except for an aftermarket head unit. I think the list price was somewhere between $5000 and $8000, and you know what? It probably sold for close to the asking price.

Imagine all the factors that had to line up for that Civic to remain in that condition after 17 years. The climate had to be favorable to a car’s longevity: Very little snow (no salt on the roads), not too much sun (or else the paint might fade). The owner had to be of a certain mindset: Hold on to the same car for 17 years and keep it not just running, but carefully maintained. He or she probably lived in a nice suburban area and kept the car in a garage, away from curbs and parallel parking mishaps and potential thieves. If the car had been rare or collectible, that would be one thing, but how many Civics get the pampered treatment like this one?

I gathered that, and I was making a joke.

You could always time travel back to 1995 and buy a brand new Civic.

The ricers get a hold of all the manual ones, ruin and crash them.

Old people get a hold of all the other ones and forget to ever change the oil and there ya go.

You can break into a Civic with basically anything and get on driving without a key in a matter of minutes.

All the one owner ones are automatic.

They’re honestly economy cars that weren’t designed to really be preserved. They were designed to be basic. (Tell that to ricers.)
