Googled “Thunderbirds F-15” out of boredom and curiosity and found these. Looks like the various branches painted a few aircraft in red, white, and blue schemes to celebrate the 1976 bicentennial.

There was also a train! The Spirit of 76 train took the Liberty Bell on a whistle stop tour of the US in 1976. It stopped in my hometown :)

Something tells me that stuff like this won’t happen, or won’t happen to the same extent, in 2026.

It really was a party. The entire country had Bicentennial Fever and virtually every consumer product packaging was changed to celebrate the year.

Wish I could have experienced it. Alas, I was still 8 years off.

I was 10, so can I stay on your lawn? I was in Cub Scouts at that time, so we were all over it. I still keep every Bicentennial quarter that I find.

Somewhere I still have (what’s left) of my Tyco HO Bicentennial train set. Mainly just the engine and caboose. IIRC, the cars in between were regular ones that didn’t sport the red, white and blue livery. I'll have to find it one of these days.

What’s more AMERICA than a futuristic fighter jet that fired nuclear missiles at Russian bombers while painted like the American flag? Nothing, that’s what.

I think every railroad jumped on the Bicentennial
train
in 1976. Pic related - one of my favorites:
