No wonder my mileage sucked.

Oh, are those important? I just throw them out. Mileage gets much better after that.

Trust me, it was. It’s hard to take a good picture of it. There is an very noticable difference in driveability and mileage already, and I didn’t put in any kind of special filter.

Could be, but I’d rather it wasn’t. It’s hard to take a good picture of it. There is an very noticeable difference in driveability and mileage already, and I didn’t put in any kind of special filter.

I take off the whole intake and exhaust. Who needs that!

Just whack it against a tree a few times and put it back in.

Did a bit of banging and blowing (the filter). Too far gone. The difference with a new filter is unbelievable.

Absolutely! I changed mine out and noticed an immediate improvement in fuel economy.

Haters be hatin’. Filters are supposed to trap dust and a pollen; no amount of banging againt a wall is going to remove this stuff once it’s attached to the fibers in the filter:
For the $10 or $15 a new filter costs, you’ll easily make it back in fuel savings, nevermind reduced engine wear.

Pffttt. My Cherokee had so much blow-by my air filter looked more like an oil filter.

So, you’d see a bigger difference than me. Doesn’t change the fact it’s hurting your engine.

My engine had no idea when I performed maintenance. New air filter? Doesn’t give a shit. Bigger TB and injectors? Who cares? Cat-back exhaust and test pipe? Didn’t even notice. Damned 4.0L...

Now, now... focus on the positives... no coolant? 4.0 doesn’t care. Two fouled plugs? 4.0 doesn’t care. Low oil...still doesn’t care. Leave it sitting for two-ten years... Well, it might be pissed, but it’ll probably still start.

I figured. Chrysler inherited that engine with Jeep from what I can understand. I had an 81 CJ with that engine that had the first two problems when purchased, then a 96 Grand Cherokee with the second two when I bought it. If I don’t know what to buy and need something I know will start I consider 80-90s Jeeps with the 4.0.
