"BugEyedBimmer - back in the Saddle Dakota Leather" (bugeyedacura)

Drove an E63 earlier this week. For once, I appreciated the plain-ness of a Mercedes interior. When it was contrasted with the wicked peformance and lightning reflexes, it just felt right. I’ve never had that feeling in a Merc of normal abilities, the contrast makes it work.

I think the best E63 was during the W211 generation:
IMHO the W212 doesn’t quite live up to the 211. I’ve always had a thing for the W211 E550.

That’s one of the things I love so much about Mercedes-AMG, though some of the newer interiors are starting to get pretty outrageous. Examples below.
CLA45:
E63:
It’s pretty easy to go from bland to nutty on the new cars.

Actually it’s always been that way. Red, blue, and silver two tone interiors have been around for 20 years in AMG’s. It’s just that solid black is by far the most common.

Pre-facelift 212’s are my favorite, unless it’s a wagon then I prefer the facelift version. But 211’s are great too, to me they just don’t seem to bite quite as hard. Plus you get ESP sport mode which lets you hoon and not kill yourself, older stuff it’s either on or off with nothing in between. I also happen to prefer the M156 to the M157, stock versus stock. But if I was going to own and tune one it would have to have the M157 because software alone increases its output by about 25%.

2010 or 2011, if my eyes don’t deceive me?
Great car, could use a bit more tire in back. Very solid.

I like having no nannies other than ABS but that’s just personal preference.
Very valid points though, the new engines are beastly.

I like it that way too, when conditions are right. 212’s have ON, OFF, and SPORT. And dyno mode if you go through the dealer menu in the cluster, which is like ESP OFF on steroids. So it isn’t like an IS-F where it kind of sort of tells you it’s off but is mostly lying because that’s only for a few moments at best.

The ML63 is the one that pretends to turn off. It says everything is off but interferes as soon as there's the slightest bit of wheel slippage.

Hmm, I’ve never tried anything like that in an ML, just seems different somehow.

That was disappointing. Too bad they didn’t know how to put it into dyno mode.

It was rather disappointing because the power and handling are clearly there on the Merc. It's just too restricting of that power.
