This video stats right where !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I left it full-length so you can see how much time elapsed after I left the dump truck, but the action starts around 1:20. The cop pulled me for doing what he said was 83 in a 75. I had the cruise set at 80, but either way that’s a bit pedantic. Eight over on the interstate? Whatever, I’m taking the STOP class. At least the cop was polite and made it quick. Notice how every single driver obeyed the “Move over or slow down” law.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’m mildly curious: Is the question, “Is this your car?” a standard traffic stop question? Also, I like how he says “The speed limit’s only 75 here.” Officer, there are only three or four places in the entire country where the speed limit is higher than that. None of them are in Nebraska or any surrounding states. Duh the speed limit is only 75.

Is the question, “Is this your car?” a standard traffic stop question? Can’t answer for the police outside the Nordic countries, but it’s a standard question here.

I've been stopped a couple times but only asked that question once.

They can and will give you a ticket for 5 over too. Hell even 1 over technically... but that could be disputed.
The one time I got pulled over, the very unpleasant officer asked for the year/make/model of my automobile.
Edit: noticed the other car pulled over on the opposite side of the highway. Hooray speed traps!

Younger guy in an expensive car (even if it is a few gens old)? Seems like a typical question an officer would ask. Also I guess he figured 83 in the rain was a bit too fast. I was pulled over for 57 in a 50 before, and again for 54 in a 50 (the latter was just a warning though). He probably hadn’t seen too many people passing one-another and figured you’d be somewhat exciting.

I got asked if I always wear my seatbelt, but not if the car was mine.

If the registration isn’t in your name, they’ll ask if its your car, yeah.
Was it a state trooper or local cop?

I spent a couple of years driving cars from Germany to Norway.. Got pulled over almost every time.. same questions as well every time.. :P
“Entschuldigen Sie, Ihrem Auto? Ahh.. Englischer.. warten Sie mal” But I understand it, the police on the autobahn saw a young guy driving a brand new porsche or mercedes.. I’d’ve pulled myself over actually.

I honestly can't imagine getting pulled over for less then 10 over. I usually try to keep it under 20 over (yes, I speed, get over it). A tip that works for me is stay as far right as possible. They're always watching the left most lane. Valentine one and waze are secondary to staying as far right as possible and watching traffic patterns. Gl, I hope that class isn't too much of a bore.

Believe me, I know. I’ve been in a car that was stopped for 3 over.
Yup. If yo watch the other video, there where at least two others a couple miles further back

I was specifically wondering if I probably got asked that question because I’m a young guy in a big luxury car.

Speed traps account for most of nebraska’s state income after taxes.

I was passing the Olds, otherwise I stay in the middle lane, where I was at the start of the video.

I hate when people who aren’t speeding or are barely speeding slam on the brakes for a cop. I considered my indicated 80 “barely speeding” so I didn’t slow for him. Oops.

The only time I’ve been asked “you’re car? my answer was “nope.” I was borrowing a friend’s Civic to take my kid to school while my car was in the shop... so the question was valid. The Cop just laughed and sent me on my way. No ticket or warning.

Rule of thumb for where I grew up, Municipal/County usually will let a few over slide, Troopers will pull you over for 1 over.

Are you sure you want the diversion?
For 8 over I bet you could go to court and the cop wouldn’t show...

“No officer, just for you.”
Not entirely sure what that question would accomplish.

Can confirm, I’ve been asked if it was mine when pulled over in Omaha and Iowa, also New Mexico. That seems silly, I’ve never been pulled for less than 10 over.

“Is this your car?” is pretty standard, particularly for a younger driver.

Pulled over for 83 in a 75? I've gone 80 in a 50 before and nothing. Granted I'm not proud of that.

83 in a 75 is an insane stop. Can’t believe a cop would actually write for that.

Yeah, he started rolling right before you passed him so he definitely had planned on getting you most likely.

Some places over a diversionary program for first time offenders. Community service and/or smaller fine instead of a ticket on your record.
Conversely, you could hire a traffic attorney and get it dismissed to plead down to a non-moving violation that won’t impact your insurance or driving record.

Ours offers a 4-hour driver’s safety course that removes all effects of the ticket. I’m doing that.

So I wonder, what car were you driving?
Is it yours, but registered to someone else? Or was it borrowed? (I’m nosy, I kno)

Boooooo! I’d say 10 over is fine. 15 over is pushing your luck, but if I were that officer I’d give a 12 mph cushion.

The roads were wet. Rule of thumb is that you lower your speed in such conditions.
Patrolling officers are aware of this too, so they’ll likely nab you for a smaller speeding threshold.
