It came out pretty well for maybe an hour and a half or so. I’ll do my dad’s truck tonight when it cools down a little.
Sorry for the crappy iPotato pic, I promise it looks better in person haha

I for one am kind of intimidated by Svend’s detailing jobs. I’m almost sure if I ever got something shiny enough to post I would start, remember one of his “SEE ALL OF LONDON IN THE GLEAM” things, and just go

2) washing out in direct sunlight?!

1) Hey, I’m 16. It’s hard to afford a Viper
2) More difficult, but I’ve got enough layers of sealant and wax on there that with the sheeting method for dying and some teenage athleticism/speed I get it done. Using CG stuff helps too. The pic is real bad, but here is a picture taken with a real camera after the detail I did on my dad’s never before detailed truck last weekend...

Nice work! All I did was a weekly maintenance wash and it was time to re-dress the tires and trim so I did that too.
I just did my dad’s truck’s weekly wash about 20 mins ago, but here is a pic of it after last weekend’s detail...
Also, are you on any detailing forums? AGO for example?

I wrote a whole long reply, then as I was about to hit publish, my phone died:(
He does a great job and has for a long time. I’m only 16 almost 17 and have only been interested in detailing since I got my car and have bought a rather large arsenal in that time and developed a huge passion for it.
This doesn’t even include tools/microfiber. Everything has its purpose even if it is to not be used until I’m sure it will do a good job and is safe.
When I posted this I saw how bad the picture is at representing the magnitude of the shine accurately.
These are pictures from back in March. You can see the gloss/shine better.

Nice job! Also, nice car for being only 16...I was driving my mom’s Nissan Quest at that age.
You’re welcome to come detail my car if you’re in Nor Cal. I just did a quick wash today as it was pretty dusty. Put as much effort into your school and job as you do in your detail work, and you’ll have one in no time.

Thanks man! There’s very few cars I’d rather have and drive right now because I really love it!
I’d love to accept that offer, but I’m in DFW Texas so that would be a little bit of a stretch...
Nice car man! For the most part I hate chrome wheels because I think they are tacky, but man every time I see those rims on a Viper I have to make an exception!
Hey, not trying to brag but I’m going into senior year in the top 5% of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I’m hoping to become an anesthesiologist(not just for the money)so ViperS should be in my future(YAY!)

Its good when there clean and a weekly or fortnightly maintenance wash just helps keep them that way. Tyres and trim are the bits that really set the car off from a clean car to a well cleaned and looked after car.
I’m on Detailing World. There’s 72,000 members world wide from ‘Weekend Warrior’ (like myself) to professional individual to manufacturers and detailing companies. Is ‘AGO’ Autogeek, they are on DW also.

Nice collection. But be careful, when the detailing bug really hits, it hits the credit card the hardest and if you are in a relationship or your family start barking about how much you spend and all the parcels, you find you start having the parcels delivered to work or friends houses. That’s when you need to step back.

I’m heavily into Gtechniq and getting more into Gyeon products, the Wetcoat is a breeze to apply with Bathe+ easier still. I like my Bilt Hamber Auto Wheels for cleaning and fallout removal and AutoFinesse Oblitarate for tar removal.

Cool! I use CG and MEGS stuff right now cause I can get good results and it's in my price point. When I'm older/richer I will probably use the ultra fancy top of the line stuff. What polisher(s) do you have? I'm really hoping to get one very soon. It will probably be a PC cause it's cheap and reliable
Svend
> ViperGuy21
06/07/2015 at 02:10 | 1 |
The thing is the ‘ultra fancy’ stuff isn’t at all expensive. The Gtechniq stuff is on a par with all the other manufacturers but a small amount of product goes a hell of a long way.
There are so many manufacturers and products out there its mind boggling.
Category | Shop by Brand
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
To name about half or a third.
I used to have a rotary polisher but gave it away. I prefer to use my hand and a trifoam pad to get a feel for the car and the paint I’m working with. It takes quite a bit longer and a lot more effort but I like to feel what I’m doing and not just seeing.
Try startignwith a DA (Dual Action) polisher either a reciprocating orbital or a forcing rotation orbital polisher as they are a little more forgiving and then work from there. For many a DA polisher is the only thing they need.

Yeah, I’m sure I will get some other brands at some point, but for now this stuff works for me.

True “Find what you like and use it a lot” is correct but also be open to try other things. Get to know other detailers in your area and ask about products that may be suitable for you and then see if they do sample sizes so your not wasting money. If I was in the U.S. I’d happily send you some samples for you to try for free. Try and set yourself a budget and not go over it. I’m not sure if you have your own version of Waxybox.co.uk over there. Its a thing that for say $25 a month they send six sample size products for you to try.

I’m not shutting out other stuff just am actually quite happy with the CG stuff, especially for the money. I kinda want to try some CarPro and Collonite stuff in particular though...
They do have something like that here but I can’t remember the name off the top of my head.
I appreciate the offer. Too bad you aren’t on this side of the pond! That’s very generous of you to help others out like that
I find it rather relaxing and fun too and a nice time to think and just work

By no means am I saying your shutting any out. Its the joy of stumbling onto something and then saying to yourself ‘bloody hell, this is good’.
CarPro is good. The tar remover (Tar-X) works really well as does the iron/fallout remover (yep, you guessed it, Iron-X). Avoid ‘Trix’ though, its the tar and iron remover in one but its prone to separating and to be honest you probably won’t really need to remove tar and iron/fallout at the same time ever. CarPro Reload is a good easy to apply spray on, wipe and buff sealant, very similar to Gtechniq C2v3 though the Gtechniq wins for me with the ‘slickness’ to the touch and gloss. CarPro do a sample kit called The Cube with samples of:
The kit contains:
Eraser (Intensive Oil & Polish Cleaner
Fog Fight (Long Lasting Anti-Fog Agent)
TarX (Powerful Tar & Adhesives Remover)
Reload (Silica Spray Sealant)
Perl (Water Based Silicon Oxide Coat)
HydrO2 (Wipe-Less Silica Spray)
IronX LS (Powerful Iron Contamination Cleaner)
IronX Cherry (Powerful Iron Contamination Cleaner)
SO2 Pure (Photo Catalyst Air Purifier Coating)
FogFight is a waste of time. Hydro2 I think you’ll love as will the Eraser which is like IsoPropyl Alcohol but with a degreaser to lift the grease away and stop it returning to the substraight as you wipe. So2Pure is a great odour destroyer in that it uses uv rays to break down stubborn odours.
Collinite gets great reviews from people who enjoy a good wax.

Right, but isn’t the hitch bike carrier rather a dirty thing to use? I mean, that doesn’t detract from it but I remember reading Autocar and seeing that pulling it out is a rather greasy job.
Besides, I do like the glass roof of the Cit...
Svend

Not as such. if you keep your car clean and take care of the nooks and crannies such as pulling it out when not used for a while and going over it with a degreaser (to remove grease from where its not needed) and then a quick detailer wipe over. But traffic film can build up in all parts of the car which is why I sometimes removes the headlamps and rear clusters to do in behind them (don’t look at me like that, I’m rather odd I know, Lol).
I like the S-Max because of its straight lines and its ‘stance’. Which is pretty much why I like the Zafira but also has the Flexfit. Which also is available with a panoramic roof.

Lol. I’m trying to talk myself into it. If I had to then that’s what I’d go for but I’d almost always have an estate car. Just nice and less ‘vanny’.
Other than the French its mostly Vauxhall/Opel, Ford and the Asian sector that are putting the effort in.
Ye’, Sweden doesn’t really have anything or the MPV type really. Its mostly estates and SUVs which are okay but I think Volvo could come up with something interesting it they put their mind to it.

Svend
> Amoore100
06/09/2015 at 03:28 | 1 |
She weighs in at 1,550Kgs and turns 45UKmpg (37US) on our average runs in and around town. On steep hills at low speeds (20mph) you have to drop it down a gear but otherwise she’s smooth and just perfect. Acceleration is actually quite brisk.
The diesels turn around 70UKmpg (58US).
The engine is quite powerful and used often in VAG cars. The neighbours courtesy car is a SEAT Ibiza and is waiting for the arrival of his new car, a VW Eos, all three share the same engine. In the SEAT she’s rapid but in the VW she’ll be like the Skoda as the Eos weighs in at the same as the Superb.
Amoore100

06/09/2015 at 12:06 | 1 |

Svend
> Amoore100
06/09/2015 at 14:17 | 1 |
The VW Eos (just a hard top cabrio) kerb weight is 1,526Kgs to the Skoda Superbs 1,550Kgs.
The car above will be silver though.
Most cars around my place are Ford, Peugeot, Vauxhall or some sort of VAG.
Amoore100
> Svend
06/09/2015 at 17:21 | 1 |
That’s actually not too heavy for a large car like the Superb (and really heavy for an Eos, but the roof adds weight) The Superb’s about the size of an American Passat, correct?
The division of vehicular choices there is definitely different from here, where it’s either a Camry or F150...
Svend
> Amoore100
06/10/2015 at 01:43 | 1 |
The new VW Passat, Audi A6 and Skoda Superb share the same MQB platform and engines, etc... Only the Skoda will be the cheapest, the Audi the most expensive and the VW in between.
The new Superb is larger still (about five centimetres wider and three centimetres longer) but weighs less than the current one.
Its all down to how much you want to pay, size and practical for your purpose here. Even the van market goes from the:-
Ford Fiesta van
up to the larger Transits
manuals still rule the roost but petrol and diesels are still fighting it out.
We don’t have the Toyota Camry or the Ford F150 here but the good thing is we can get one if we choose and then have the engine advanced or retarded to make it suitable for European fuel, add a rear foglight and alter the sweep of the headlights, have it tested for emissions for taxation and that’s it.

You lucky Europeans get to import (nearly) whatever you want...
I do love European vans, there are so many more options than there are in the U.S. (teensy, small, medium, low-roof, high-roof, passenger...)
Yeah, it’s getting so that it’s basically the same chassis, then choose what manufacturer and body style you want...it’s the generalized automobile concept of the future!
Svend
> Amoore100
06/10/2015 at 02:13 | 1 |
Its okay but generally there isn’t really anything anyone really wants to bring in unless its something loud and brash but even then there is quite a large variety in the niche market for that.
Lol. There are a couple of F150s near me and they look ridiculous really. Just too large for the road. The owners get used to the looks from other road users of ‘you total dick, what the hell did you get that for? An L200 not big enough for you or something’. Its really funny.
Ye’, even across marques there is homologation with chassis and engines to cut development costs down or share the burden.
Amoore100
> Svend
06/10/2015 at 02:21 | 1 |
Oh lol is the L200 considered particularly large in Britain or something?
Yeah, you guys have less reason to import since you get all the cool stuff already...while we get boring stuff and can’t import...there is always the argument that the cost of living there is higher though...
When I saw the word homologation this is the first thing that always springs to mind even though this isn’t the right application...
Svend
> Amoore100
06/10/2015 at 02:54 | 1 |
I think a Mitsubishi L200 Warrior or Nissan Navara are considered in the most part as large in the U.K.
Though there are some cool stuff, most people want practical and affordable while also being easy and cheap to maintain. Many see it as merely a tool to get from A to B and nothing more.
The cost of living is a very complicated thing. One country may have higher taxes but its offset by what those taxes pay for compared to lesser taxes but not much going towards infrastructure or services.
Many U.S. people are surprised by how much cheaper food is here than in the U.S. or how taxes are spent or what is and what isn’t taxed. Winnings such as holiday, car, lottery, etc... aren’t taxed (the interest on financial winnings is taxed, but not the full sum) or buying and selling a car privately (that was a hell of a surprise to see you have to declare how much you spent on a used car in a private sale and then get a tax bill from Uncle Sam, ouch) or any other goods. We also only pay one tax within the E.U. on a product. So if I buy a product in Germany and pay tax at source I won’t have to pay tax again on it in the U.K. unless I think I’ll pay less tax in the U.K. and choose not to pay the German tax but declare it to HMRC (U.K. Customs) and pay the tax here.

We get rain in the middle of a heatwave. We have showers off and on for a few minutes here and there when there’s no real rain. Even the other week it rained twice while cleaning a car.
I’d just finished buffing it all up and was about to tidy up the inside. Dried it off, vacuumed and dressed the interior and one minute before my colleague came back for the car.
Yep. Rained again.
