The other day I found myself typing out “payed” and I was like... wut?

I’ve always written it as “paid,” but for some reason lately I’ve been wanting to spell it the other way. I have no clue what my brain is doing. Kind of funny to see I’m not the only one currently contemplating such a strange bit of random sauce.
