Faulty master lighting switch (thanks again Lucas!) which I knew about, but completely forgot about during last nights blitz. It’s safe to say that I’m quite annoyed at myself, what a dick. There’s not even an advisory on the sheet, just that damn switch. Furthering my annoyance, LR quoted the garage Ł112 for a replacement switch, when the same part is on Paddocks for Ł28. Obviously I ordered the latter and am awaiting delivery for Monday. Anyhoo this all means I won’t have the car for Monday/Tuesday, the Series is SORN’d, so that leaves me with the Skoda to use for a couple of days work next week. Oh joy. Thank god it at least has a towbar.

How thorough is the MOT? Just curious for comparison sake against the Safety and emissions that we have in my state.

Here its basically:

OBDII cars - is all the stuff thats supposed to be reporting in there and working? Pass emissions

Safety - Do you got brakes? how about lights and turn signals? no big ol cracks in your windscreen? you’re good.

For all that the SIIA master lighting switch that rotates around the key is incredibly foolish, I haven’t had any trouble with mine. If I had, though, it’s a real treat because you have to break apart the ignition set partway to get it dealt with. 28 pounds for a switch seems like quite a lot, but considering I don’t think mine’s even available new...

An awful lot. Mainly: Brake performance, handbrake performance, brake pipes, brake discs/drums/pads/shoes, tread depth, fluid leaks, corrosion (anything structural or within 30cm of a seatbelt mounting point), lighting performance and headlight alignment, emissions and/or particles, bearings, hubs, suspension, windscreen, wiper performance, maybe OBDII (I’m not sure), seatbelt and airbag check.

Ł28 for Lucas, or aftermarket for Ł13. If this Lucas one craps out again within 12 months I’ll try the Shitpart one. It can’t be any worse, and it’s either that or a relay. Who builds a lighting circuit that runs the full current of the headlights through the switch. Of course it fucking melts. It’s plastic and metal gets hot.

Well, by the time they made your Wolf, they’d had the headlights set up that daft way (full-current switch) for nearly fifty-odd years, so changing it would be Wrong... or something. My Ranchero also has a full-current switch, but in its defense it’s a 50-year old shitbox-based truck not meant to survive over ten years. And the switch is heavy enough that it’s still good.

On the road, I imagine, as few import US cars only to let them moulder. You may not get many of the old fun ones, but at least the ones you have are mostly not tragic heaps of the kind that jump out of the bushes here, to inflict misery. “Was that a - ? Just rusting away? WHY?”

Ours doesn’t even go that far. The guy hooked my truck up to the OBD sensor for a few minutes to make sure everything was golden, then passed me. In Illinois they put an exhaust sniffer in your tailpipe at least. No visual inspection for either though, but that could be based on the age of the vehicle.

You’re correct. It’s a GT500. Threw me a bit because I’m not up on Shelby rear bodywork, which is apparently unique.
